Don't forget! The next Green Drinks with Green Umbrella will be hosted by the Transportation Action team tomorrow (November 7th) at MOTR Pub.
Last Call for Green Business Award Nominations: Fri, November 8th
Each year the Business Courier honors local businesses and nonprofits with Green Business Awards in four categories representing buildings, products & services, green practices (such as waste management or transportation programs), and advocacy & awareness programs. Nominations are due by Friday, November 8th! Winners will be announced in March 2014.
Jennifer Eismeier Wins Seat on City Council
Jennifer Eismeier, the Executive Director of the Mill Creek Watershed Council and Chair of Green Umbrella's Watershed Action Team, has recently won a seat on the Wyoming City Council!
Little Duck Creek Trail is Open!
After hatching the plan in the mid 1970s, the Little Duck Creek hike/bike trail has finally been completed! With the help of over 30 volunteers and the Cincinnati Toolbank, the final portion of the Little Duck Creek Trail was cleared, finishing a beautiful trail.

Metrofitting Lecture & Discussion with Tony Fry is Thursday!
On Thursday, November 7th, USGBC Cincinnati Regional Chapter and the University of Cincinnati are hosting a unique lecture and panel discussion about the sustainable city planning and the future of Cincinnati. Dr. Tony Fry of the Design Futures Department of Griffith University, will give a presentation on his concept of Metrofitting.

Taking Root Presentation to OKI
Check out this presentation by Green Umbrella's Brewster Rhoads to the OKI Board of Trustees on the Taking Root campaign! Taking Root is a collaborative, broad-based campaign to address the current historic loss of our region's tree canopy by planting trees, better managing our local forests, promoting the many benefits of trees, and fostering a sense of stewardship among individuals and communities.

Making Peace With Nature is a syndicated, public affairs television program which deals with solutions to problems of conservation, energy, and the environment. Check out this recent episode which highlights Marissa Burroughs of Keep Cincinnati Beautiful.
The Top 100 Project
Check out some of the Top 100 Ways the region around Cincinnati is greener than you think:
  1. The Players for the Planet annual e-waste recycling drive has become one of the largest in the country, collecting 8 tractor-trailer trucks of computers, TVs, etc. in 2013 alone.
  2.  Rumpke Recycling is the largest recycler in Ohio and one of the largest recyclers in the Midwest.
  3. UC's Thermal Storage Program is the largest thermal storage program in Ohio.

The U.S. Cities Where the Fewest Commuters Get to Work by Car-Cincinnati has been ranked 23rd out of 70 cities with the highest share of non-car commuters.

Report: Idling motors outside schools are dangerous-When children walk into their school building, they may pass through some of the dirtiest air on their travel from home to class. A recent study, points the way to reduce the exposure-simply turn off the engines of idling buses and cars.
