The Mill Creek Watershed Council of Communities enables the Mill Creek communities to protect and enhance the value of the Mill Creek, its tributaries and watershed. Through a collaborative action, the Council strives to make the Mill Creek area a more desirable place to live, work, and play.
 
On Saturday, August 3rd come join the Mill Creek Yacht Club on the 90th adventure down the beloved Mill Creek! Paddling is the best way to experience the Mill Creek oddities and learn about the stream. Click here to RSVP today!

The Ecological City
The Ecological City: Cincinnati, 1788-the Future is a new evolving website that began as a project of some of John Fairfield's (professor at Xavier University) students. Throughout the website, you can find student essays on various things going on in the city, various blog postings depicting various excursions in Cincinnati and its surrounding region, and video blogs.

FREE Recycling at "One Stop Drop"
Keep Cincinnati Beautiful and Whole Foods Market are inviting residents to take part in a unique recycling event where residents are encouraged to participate by bringing hard-to-recycle items like electronic waste and plastic grocery bags to one convenient drop off location for FREE recycling!

Cincinnati Innovates Opens $10,000 Water Challenge
On Monday July 22nd, Cincinnati Innovates opened its $10,000 EPA Water Challenge. Through this challenge, the U.S. EPA is looking for an efficient, low cost and low maintenance real-time sensor to monitor sewer overflows in urban areas, such as Greater Cincinnati.
 
Recr8OhioRiver App Now Available!
MSD and its partners, the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) and Sanitation District No. 1 of Northern Kentucky (SD1), developed a website and a smartphone app as a public service initiative. The tools help recreational users make informed decisions about where and when to boat, fish, paddle and engage in other water sports on the Ohio River. Recr8OhioRiver focuses on water quality, river conditions and weather, but also provides information about local marinas, fish advisories, and boat traffic.   1. University of Cincinnati Environmental Literacy program received an honorable mention in Business Journal's 2013 Green Awards.
  2. Cincinnati, under the leadership of the Civic Garden Center, has the oldest community garden program in the nation.
  3. Cincinnati is the founding city of the urban forestry movement in the US.
  4. Metro has 27 hybrid buses in their fleet, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 1,800 tons in 2012.

Outdoor Adventures-Looking for a fun way to help children experience the outdoors this summer? Volunteer with our Outdoor Adventures program sponsored by the ABC Foundation in partnership with Green Umbrella. Whether you want to pedal/paddle at the Little Miami Whitewater Forest Boathouse (July 29th from 10:00-3:00) or scuba dive at LeBlond Recreation Center (July 31st from 10:00-1:00), there is an activity for everyone! For a complete listing of outings and opportunities to help through July and August, email Director Denny McFadden at [email protected].
