IN MEMORY OF MICHAEL BROWN...

UNARMED CIVILIAN IN FERGUSON, MISSOURI

Update II

One week has passed since the Kickstarter campaign UNARMED CIVILIAN in Ferguson launched.

Almost seventy percent of the money needed to print the first 500 UNARMED CIVILIAN t-shirts for the people of Ferguson has been raised with donations from $10 to $1,000. We will place the order as soon as we reach our goal of $5,500. We hope this will be possible in the next few days.

We have made contact with local activists and organizers in Ferguson who will help us distribute the t-shirts. Time is of the essence and we want to go soon. We need your help. You can help us by reaching out to people you know through your social networks to ask them to support this effort.

This has been a remarkable week. We are receiving a great response on Kickstarter, as well as on the street as we have been wearing UNARMED CIVILIAN every day. People are approaching us to talk candidly about Ferguson, racism, police brutality, sharing with us their own personal stories, outrage and desire to do something. People want to wear UNARMED CIVILIAN, people of all ages and all colors, in solidarity or because they too feel vulnerable. It has been a poignant and powerful response.

We have been invited to bring the

WE WILL NOT BE SILENT/UNARMED CIVILIAN campaign to three middle-school classes at the Cornerstone Academy for Social Action in the Bronx, to talk together with students between the ages of 10 and 14 and their teachers.

The public tragedy of the murder of Michael Brown, followed by shameless, overt police brutality toward Michael Brown's community in Ferguson, has galvanized people across the nation. Michael Brown's murder is one of the countless manifestations of the deadly racist violence that has gone on forever in the United States of America and it must be stopped. Our collective effort is one among so many actions that are taking place in unity with the people of Ferguson.

We want this to grow into a large grassroots effort. We can imagine many more people signing up at $10, $20 and $30 to take us beyond our goal. Then we will print more than 500 UNARMED CIVILIAN t-shirts.

Our commitment is to rise to the occasion of your support.
WE COMMIT TO PRINT AS MANY UNARMED CIVILIAN T-SHIRTS as you afford us the ability to print, and we will distribute each and every one in an act of solidarity.

Please help us... imagine

1,000 UNARMED CIVILIANS standing against

police brutality, against militarism and

at the core of it all, against savage racism.

Dare to dream...

Take the time...

please send this email out.

Let us show the people of Ferguson that

we stand with the many who stand with them.

WE WILL NOT BE SILENT is an artist/activist collective that has been in existence since 2006. Through the creative use of language embodied on shirts and emboldened on signs held up in public spaces, we respond to current social justice issues, encouraging creative, direct public-actions where many people can participate.
