Teacher Collaborations at Franklin Elementary
By Genevieve "Dr. G" Moscovitz, Team Lead Clinician at Franklin Elementary School
This year, (as pictured from left to right) Dr. Kristine Karaca, Dr. Meilin Mehri, Dr. Genevieve Moscovitz, team lead, Dr. Leah Eisbart, and trainee Brian Kuennemeier, MA provided intensive mental health services to over 50 students at Franklin.
It's been a great year at Franklin Elementary School! We welcomed a new principal, Dr. Ingrid Seyer-Ochi, and the support of the Ann Martin Center school-based mental health team has been very strong. Principal Ingrid's leadership brings fresh enthusiasm and vision to Franklin. She has said many times that she values the vital role of Ann Martin Center clinicians at the school, and is grateful for all the powerful collaborations.
One of the many poignant successes this year has been with teacher collaborations. Teachers are very receptive to working together and grateful for our help, but the change doesn't only happen in the therapy room. Dr. Karaca reflects on how she has been able to work with teachers to enhance their psychological understanding of their students, and how this can improve the overall experience in the classroom. 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Willow, shared,
"The Ann Martin team has made our students lives so much better. The children feel supported and so much happier, with a new found sense of self. I see the difference in the classroom. I don't think I could have done my job this well without Ann Martin here."
The Ann Martin Center school-based clinical team at Franklin is proud to be an integral part of Principal Ingrid's vision for positive and trauma informed approaches to education and behavior. We look forward to another great year, Go Tigers!

Brian's Story
"My grandchildren have been seen by their Ann Martin Center therapists for over a year for grief counseling and psychotherapy in the clinic. Their mother, my daughter, died 2 years ago when they were in preschool. Their therapists have been incredibly helpful in helping our family handle their emotional outbursts. Our grandson Brian found it particularly difficult to handle his anger, resentment, disappointment, and change. Regular conversations with his therapist gave me ideas for working with him. He's growing up and improving. Thank you Ann Martin Center!"

CAN NonProfit of the Year Award -- Tony Thurmand, District 15
We are pleased to announce Assemblymember Tony Thurmond has selected Ann Martin Center as "2016 Nonprofit of the Year" for his district. The California Association of Nonprofits (C.A.N.) contacted state assembly members and state senators with a list of agencies that are members of C.A.N. in each district and asked each politician to pick an outstanding nonprofit.
Why AMC? Tony Thurmond sponsored AB 1025 that funds mental health specialists in elementary schools. In Alameda County, Ann Martin Center is one of the biggest providers of mental health services at the elementary school level through the EPSDT program.
AMC Board President, Linda Baker, Vice President, John White, Clinical Director, Hasse Leonard-Pagel and ED David Theis will travel to Sacramento on June 22 to meet with Tony to receive a resolution and attend a luncheon hosted by C.A.N. We are thrilled to receive this distinction as a leading provider of community-based mental health services for children in the East Bay.

APA Accreditation Update
Earlier this month, we received great news from the APA that we received our accreditation. This is a significant accomplishment for the entire Clinical Program and reflects the considerable strength of our internship training. We would like to thank our Director of Training & QA, Beth Berkowitz, who propelled the process with all the documentation details, design of seminars, and extensive coordination of supervisors, instructors, and students. We also recently received APA reaccreditation for our Continuing Education program. This is a real triumph and landmark in the history of Ann Martin Center, and on behalf of all of us, thank you for all your support as we celebrate these two accomplishments.

2016 Night of Magic Gala a Resounding Success
On April 29, Ann Martin Center celebrated its Annual Night of Magic Spring Gala Benefit Dinner at the beautiful Scottish Rite Center in downtown Oakland. The event was a resounding success exceeding our goal to raise $155,700 in gross proceeds to support AMC's core psychotherapy and educational programs.
Over 200 guests gathered to celebrate Ann Martin Center's achievements in supporting the mental health and learning needs of underserved children and families in the East Bay. The program included a live and silent auction, gourmet dinner, and magic show by entertainer, Patrick Martin.
A highlight of the evening was a moving testimonial from Principal Zarina Ahmad of Piedmont Avenue Elementary School who attributed AMC therapists at her school as a positive influence on her students.

"As a school community we celebrate and learn so much from our diversity. However, the social emotional issues associated with low incomes plague our school community in a big way. Far too many students have seen acts of horrific violence, have suffered abuse, go hungry, or deal with abandonment, illness or death of a loved one. It is comforting to know that Dr. Louise Maynor and her staff from the Ann Martin Center are at our school site to support our students and their families," said Principal Ahmad.
A special thanks to our Gala Honorary Chair, Chef Michael Wild of BayWolf Restaurant, Co-Chairs Betty Simpson and MaryAnn Pearson, Gala Committee members, AMC Board of Directors, Corporate and Individual Sponsors, Table Hosts, AMC staff and friends for your valued participation and generous support!

YOUR GIFT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Ann Martin Center is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk children in the East Bay. We are pleased to share we have raised $345,038, or 97% towards our Annual Campaign goal of $355,000 this year. Help us reach our goal by making a donation by June 30 -- to ensure our programs stay strong and children in need benefit from the compassionate care of AMC clinicians.
A gift of any size would go a long way to serving more parents and children in our East Bay community. If you have already made a gift this year, thank you for your support! Your generous contributions will help children succeed in school, develop vital social skills, and move into productive and fulfilling adulthood with confidence, resilience and self-esteem towards a brighter future.
