AMC Profiles of Success

"Frank can concentrate in class.  He can complete his homework by himself.  His mood is better.  In the past, he seldom sang.  Now he sings.  He thinks of ghosts less and less and is less scared.  He is much happier.  His academic performance has improved."

"Over the past few months, I have seen a noticeable improvement with my 9 year old daughter.  She is calmer, less volatile and angry, and is communicating much better with our family.  Mary [our therapist] is fantastic.  Our collateral appointments are helpful and have been effective in getting my ex and I aligned on how best to co-parent."

"The Center has been a warm and caring place for us.  We couldn't be more grateful."

"Maya's grades have been improving and she made student of the month.  Her attitude has been more positive and her teachers gave her a certificate for improving her efforts."

"Angie has been instrumental in helping our son adjust to adolescence and begin to take control of his ADHD.  She has guided him toward more appropriate social interactions without adding anxiety in social situations.  He feels better about himself and is a more positive child as a result of Angie's therapy.  He likes having someone outside of the family to confide in.  Angie has helped our entire family."

"I am so happy that my son has started working with Miss Sandra.  She is so nice and he looks forward to seeing her.  She has helped him so much with his anger.  She also keeps in touch with me and keeps me informed.  Thank you so much to the Ann Martin Center.  I'm a single parent and it helps me so much to not feel alone."

"I love everything that the Ann Martin Center has done for me and my family."

And now for some exciting news...

Ann Martin Center is moving!  After a challenging search over the past three years, we've found an amazing new location that feels like our destiny.  We've outgrown operations at our three buildings and a strategic planning process concluded that a relocation was an absolute necessity.  The new facility is in Emeryville on a peaceful side street (not far from Pixar) with access to public transportation including BART via the Emery-Go-Round.  The building is 15,000 square feet and will finally allow us to fulfill many dreams such as a full-fledged auditorium and a drop-in homework club.  Formerly, this site was the "Pickleworks" factory from 1920 with a whimsical brick facade.  Inside, however, it's completely modernized, seismically reinforced, and wired with fiber optics.  This month, we signed a ten year lease with a ten year option for our new home.

We have a new logo!  A special thanks to Bruce Willardson and his team at Clorox Creative Services for their incredible work on our new brand mark for Ann Martin Center.  After extensive staff and board input, we arrived at this new design that we think captures the spirit of hope and learning at Ann Martin Center. Please stay tuned as we freshen up our look!

Results from our client survey!  Ann Martin Center recently conducted a client satisfaction survey for the purpose of gathering client feedback and assessing outcomes for school-based and clinical services.  Quantitative and qualitative measures were used to to obtain parents' views on the overall quality of treatment and effectiveness of psychotherapy and educational therapy, as well as psychological and educational assessments.  Most significant to highlight are the following results:

  • Overall, 91% of families agreed or strongly agreed they were satisfied with the quality of care provided.
  • 91% of families agreed or strongly agreed they would recommend the Center to friends and family who need help.
  • 98% of families agreed or strongly agreed they felt treated with respect by staff at Ann Martin Center.

With the help of partners like you, we can continue to provide the highest quality of care for underserved children in our community.  Our psychotherapy and educational therapy services strengthen a child's ability to engage in school, gain coping skills, develop caring friendships, and make healthy choices.

On behalf of our Board of Directors and staff, thank you for helping children in our community to live happier, healthier lives. As we near the holiday season, we're deeply thankful for the gifts you have given us -- in time, talent and treasure.

We look forward to celebrating our 50th Anniversary with you next year, and an even bigger, brighter future ahead.

Sincerely,

David S. Theis,
