20 YEARS OF INNOVATION IN GOVENMENT
Twenty years ago CTG opened its doors as a research center at the University at Albany. We were charged by then New York Governor Mario Cuomo to "pursue new ways of applying technologies directly to the practical problems of information management and service delivery in the public sector."

CTG was the "first of its kind" providing an innovative model of public-private partnerships where government, academia, and the corporate community could partner on experiments with technology to learn what worked, what didn't, and why. In these first 20 years, we have witnessed dramatic changes in technology and how it is used. What is on the horizon for the next chapter is truly exciting and we look forward to taking the journey with you.

Sincerely,
Theresa Pardo
Director, CTG

TIMELESS LESSONS FOR GOVERNMENT INNOVATORS

"Since the inception of Public CIO, the University at Albany's Center for Technology in Government (CTG) has been a frequent and welcome contributor. Created at the dawn of e-government, CTG has had front-row seats for the public sector's ongoing technology-powered transformation. But far from being a passive observer, the center has worked directly with hundreds of government organizations to implement innovative ideas and prove new concepts. Along the way, the CTG translated its experiences into best practices and practical guidance that have helped shape the state of the art for public CIOs.

This year, the center celebrates its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, we asked CTG Founding Director Sharon Dawes and current Director Theresa Pardo to compile some essential advice for effectively using technology in the public sector."

-Steve Towns, Editor, Public CIO

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Scholarship with Impact

CTG has had the good fortune to work with and learn from hundreds of government practitioners over the past 20 years. This opportunity has also extended to students in the classrooms of the University at Albany. Every year for the last 12 years, as part of the nationally ranked program (ranked 3rd by US News and World Reports) in Government Information Strategy and Management offered by the Public Administration and Policy Department at Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, Theresa Pardo has taught Building a Case for IT in the Public Sector.
