Family Friends of Scouting

To help keep the cost of Scouting affordable for all boys, our Scout Council provides many services for free or at a discounted cost.  Again this year, we are conducting the Family Friends of Scouting Campaign to raise the funds needed for Camp Alaflo maintenance and supplies.   We need your pack's/troop's help!  Please contact your District Family FOS Chair, district executive or the Council Service Center at 334.793.7882 to schedule your annual FOS presentation.  Thanks.

Sporting Clay Fundraiser

The 17th Annual Sporting Clays and Fun Shoot will be held at Camp Alaflo on March 12.  The annual fundraiser generates revenue for council and camp operations.  If you would like to volunteer to help at the event or can help secure donated items for our auction, please contact the Council Service Center at 334.793.7882.  We would like to thank our lead sponsor Solomon Chevrolet Cadillac, plus the following event committee members:  Bill Matheny, David Benefield, Arthur Gardner, Don Goody, Hunter Green, Corey Howell, Matt King, Joshua Massey, Archie Solomon, Jr., Harold Turner and James Turner.
YPT and Rechartering

National BSA requires all leaders to complete Youth Protection Training (YPT) and renew the training every two years.  Leaders must be YPT compliant at the time their unit recharters to be "active" and eligible to serve in a unit leadership role.  When a unit completes the online recharter process, a report is generated listing any leaders who are not YPT complaint.  These leaders are not considered "active".  These leaders must complete YPT before continuing in a leadership role.

Are all the leaders in your unit YPT compliant?  Each registered leader can look up their training status at My.Scouting.org.  Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Committee Chairs and COR's can access a list of leaders for their unit through the same website.

If you have any questions, please contact your district training chair, unit commissioner, district executive OR call the Council Service Center at 334.793.7882.

Rechartering status

We have several units that have not completed their recharter paperwork for 2016. Those units are currently in lapsed status.  It is very important that if you wish to continue meeting as a Scout unit that you recharter your unit as soon as possible. Once your unit drops, it will no longer be a registered Scouting unit. As a result, you will no longer be covered by the liability and accident insurance provided by the Council.

Also, by National BSA standards, you will not be able to conduct youth meetings or outings.

If you are in need of assistance in with your recharter, please contact the Council Service Center immediately at 334-793-7882. It is very important that we get this paperwork completed to avoid any loss in tenure or insurance coverage.
Summer Camp

There is a disturbance in the forest coming this summer at Camp Alaflo.  The team has been assembled and we are working hard to put on an outstanding program for you and your Scouts this summer.  Please follow the links below to download the Camp Leaders Guide and Merit Badge information.  New Merit Badges include Welding, Metalwork, Auto Mechanics, Aviation, Scouting Heritage and American Cultures.  We will also be adding 3D Archery and will have an International Camp Staff Member serving on staff.

Please be aware that if your unit has adopted a campsite you MUST send in your $25 campsite deposit by March 1, 2016.  After March 1st all unreserved campsites will be opened up to other Troops on a first come, first served basis.  By doing this it will encourage your unit to register early as well as help us plan for an exciting summer at camp.

If you have questions concerning Camp Alaflo, please contact the Camp Director, Joe Maxwell at 334-446-8149 or joe.maxwell@scouting.org.

Spring Camporee

This year's Spring Camporee will be held March 18-20 at Camp Alaflo.  This year's camporee will be based on a rendezvous theme and should be an outstanding event hosted by the Order of the Arrow - Cowikee Lodge.  Out Camporee Chairman Chris Wood has been hard at work to make this a fun and exciting activity.

Please download the registration flyer for more information and so your unit can get registered as soon as possible.

Muskoke Spring Break Day Camp

This year there will be two day camp opportunities for your Cub Scouts to participate in during Spring Break.  Both sessions will run from March 28-April 1.  We will have a session at Eastgate Park in Dothan and another session at our Florida location.  The theme this year will be CSI and should be a fun filled event.

Summer Cub Scout Resident Camp

This summer we will offer Cub Scout Resident Camp at Camp Alaflo on June 8-11.  This year's theme will be based on Star Wars with themed activities.  Resident Camp is a great opportunity for your Cub Scouts to get out and have a great time at the beginning of the summer.  They will also have the chance to earn some awards and move toward up in rank as young padowons.  Please see information at this link and share it with your families and lets have a big group of Cubs attend this summer.  If you need further information please contact Joe Maxwell at 334.446.8149 or joe.maxwell@scouting.org.

Please download the registration flyer for more information.
