Please encourage all of your leaders to attend. Supper will be provided to all those who attend.

Fundamentals of Training
Saturday, July 19, 2014, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Council Service Center
6801 West Main Street
Dothan AL
The Fundamentals of Training course is the first phase of the three-part train-the-trainer continuum (T3, or T-Cubed) in the Boy Scouts of America. The course's purpose is to introduce teaching techniques and skills to new Scout trainers as well as help those Scouters, regardless of their experience, present effective training. It will also help those who may have trained for other organizations learn the BSA's training techniques and will help "freshen up" the skills of current BSA trainers. The course is intended for both youth and adult trainers.

Upon completion of The Fundamentals of Training, new trainers will be able to apply the techniques across BSA's leadership development programs, from unit-level youth leader training taught by youth for youth, to position-specific and supplemental training for adult leaders. Upon completion of this first part, new trainers are coached and mentored by experienced trainers as they become comfortable with and confident in their training skills.

Join us on July 19, at the Council Service Center at 1:00 p.m. for this fun filled and worth-while learning and training activity. Click here to download the registration flier from our council website.

The Trainer's EDGE is the second part of the continuum. As trainers develop their training skills, Trainer's EDGE provides an additional opportunity for trainers to enhance their abilities. Trainer's EDGE also supplements the training development sessions offered during faculty development for advanced leadership training courses and provides increased familiarity with the EDGE model that is used throughout the training.

The third part of the continuum is the Master Trainer course taught at one of the BSA's national volunteer training centers or at the regional level.
Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) Seminar
Saturday, August 2, 2014,
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Council Service Center
6801 West Main Street
Dothan AL
Cost is $10.00 per person
Registration Cut-off is 7/30/2014
The purpose of the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops course is to teach Scouts with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role. It is intended to help Boy Scouts in leadership positions within their troop understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities. Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops is the first course in the series of leadership training offered to Boy Scouts and is a replacement for Troop Leadership Training.

Leadership is a vital part of the Scouting program. Boy Scouts in positions of leadership run the troop. They take care of the many tasks necessary for troop and patrol meetings and activities to run smoothly. By accepting the responsibilities of troop leadership, Scouts are preparing themselves to be leaders throughout their lives.

The badge of office presented to a Boy Scout who is accepting a position of troop leadership does not automatically make him a good leader.

The purpose of this seminar it to provide assistance to the Adult and Senior Youth leadership of each troop so that they can properly carry out this training on the Troop Level. All Adult and Senior Youth leadership are invited to attend.

Applicants who register after the cut-off date may not receive all training materials. The cost will cover all training materials as well as lunch. Please bring a notepad and pen with you.

The uniform for the day will be the Activity Uniform. We will be participating in many activities both inside and outside throughout the day.

Annual College of Commissioner Science
Saturday, August 23, 2014
Alabama School of Osteopathic Medicine
Dothan AL
The Alabama-Florida Council will host the Annual College of Commissioner Science in Dothan.

This marks the 8th year that we have combined with the Gulf Coast and Suwanee Area Council to conduct this one day training conference for potential, new and "seasoned" commissioners. The college is open to all registered adult leaders. If you are interested in attending, we urge you to preregister through the Council Service Center. This will help us to ensure that we have enough course material on hand and lunch for you.

What Is My.Scouting Tools?
News!

My.Scouting Tools is a dynamic tool for all Scouting leadership, and eventually Scouts, to obtain and maintain their current registration and training information. The new version released by BSA National this spring is faster and has new features to support unit and district operations.

Check it out at My.Scouting.org. Be sure to include the "." in my.scouting.

Retention Plan
News!
The Alabama-Florida Council is pleased to be working on a retention plan for all youth in our council. Last year, we started with a Cub Scout Pack retention pledge that helped packs take advantage of programs and activities that would help retain their Scouts.

We had very successful year in 2013, and we are bringing it back for 2014. We are adding a Boy Scout Troop pledge this year, to help retain Scouts. We have incorporated all of the council committees in the mix, as everyone has the responsibility with retaining Scouts in our program. Check it out at your district Fall Program preview on July 31, 2014 for all the details.
Summer Time Pack Award
News!
The purpose of the National Summertime Award is to encourage packs to provide a year-round program by continuing to meet during the time periods when school is out of session for several weeks or months. If a pack is in a "year-round school", (or is part of a home-school association), the pack could earn the Summertime Pack Award by having a special pack activity during those breaks. Is your Pack meeting year round?

Boys who participate in three summertime pack events, (one each in June, July, and August), are eligible to receive the National Summertime Award pin.

The pin is worn on the right pocket flap of the Cub Scout Uniform, pinned onto the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award, if present. Multiple pins may be displayed for each year the award is earned.

Since the goal of the Summertime award is to have Packs continue the program through the summer, the summertime award scouts receive should match their current rank rather than the rank they are working on, (i.e., boys who have attained the rank of Tiger will receive the Tiger pin even though they are in a Wolf Den and working towards the Wolf rank). Check out our Program Preview for more details on the summer time pack award.
