Boy Scout Summer Camp Saving Plan Extended
| News!
|
Due to changes in staff at both the Council office and a new camp director for Camp ALAFLO this summer, we have extended a few deadlines in the 2014 Boy Scout CAMP SAVINGS PLAN. We felt that we did not give enough time to the Troops to plan accordingly with the delay in the release of the leader guide and merit badge schedule. Please make note of the adjusted dates. 1. Reserve your Camp Patrol Site(s) by April 15, 2014. (Many Troops did this at the January 23, 2014 Council Camp Promotion). 2. Hold a Troop Camp Kick-off by April 15, 2014 for Scouts, Scout family members, and eligible Webelos. Turn in the Troop Camp Kick-off roster to the office by April 21, 2014.
3. Make a Troop reservation on CampMaster and pay a $60 per person deposit by April 15, 2014. Online registration is now open on our online registration portal at alabamaflorida.camp-master.com. 4. Schedule and hold a 2014 Family Friends of Scouting presentation by May 2, 2014. 5. Pay your Camp Fees in full by May 9, 2014. Your Unit MUST complete all five steps of the Camp Savings Plan to receive the fee reduction. What will your Troop pay if it completes all five steps of the Camp Savings Plan and completes the Camp Savings Plan Worksheet found in the leader guide? The new fees will be $215 per Boy Scout and $60 per Adult Leader.

Boy Scout Summer Camp updates
| News!
|
The 2014 Camp Leader Guide has been released. A copy can downloaded from the council website, picked up at the Council Service Center, or a copy can be mailed by contacting the Camp Director, Kevin J. Fox at kevinj.fox@scouting.org. In addition to the Leader Guide you may download a copy of the merit badge schedule as well.
Your unit may sign up individual Scouts for classes now through May 3. Please note that this is earlier than in years past. The sign up process will be delivered through the CampMaster web site. You will sign up your Scouts for a class, not a specific class time. The CampMaster system will balance all of the Scouts that want a particular class over all of the times that the class is offered. Due to feedback from you, (the unit leaders that have attended our camps in the past), we will be imposing hard caps on many of our most popular classes. Priority will be given to those units who submitted their schedules first and we will do our best to accommodate the class requests of every youth. Online registration is now open on our online registration portal at alabamaflorida.camp-master.com.
Our goal for the 2014 camping season is to deliver your Scouts' tentative class schedule back to you by May 17, 2014. This should allow for ample opportunity for you to communicate back to your Scouts and help you in your camp planning and preparation.

Recharter by April Fool's Day - No Joking Matter!
| Deadline is Tuesday, April 1, 2014
|
Unfortunately, there are several packs and troops who have not completed their recharter paperwork due in January 2014. Those units are currently in lapsed status. On April 1, January units officially drop and will no longer be registered Scouting units. As a result, members of these units will not be covered by liability or accident insurance provided by the Council. Additionally, by National B.S.A standards, these units cannot conduct youth meetings or outings; plus advancement cannot be earned and will not be credited in the National ScoutNet system.
Please check with your unit leadership to make sure your unit has completed their recharter process. Assistance is available at the Council Service Center.
