Golf Challenge
| Friday, November 1, 2013 Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Highland Oaks 904 Royal Parkway Dothan, Alabama 36305
|
COVAN proudly presents the annual Boy Scout Golf Challenge honoring Stanhope Elmore and funding Scouting in the Wiregrass.
Our event has moved from the heat of the summer to pleasant fall weather. We return to the Robert Trent Jones-Highland Oaks Golf Course in Dothan.
New this year is the first annual Boy Scout Team Challenge, which is based on the hit TV reality series hosted by National Geographic, "Are You Tougher Than a Boy Scout?". Well, are you? Prove it! Enter the challenge and each member of your team will compete against a Boy Scout in one of four challenges to include: tomahawk throwing, BB gun shooting, spin casting and knot tying. Which event will you choose? Beat the Scouts, earn a badge, plus receive a tee box advantage!
For more information, please contact Jerry Freyberg at the Council Service Center, telephone 334.793.7882.

Bobcat Badge and Hot Spark
| Now!
|
New Cub Scouts earning their Bobcat Badge within about 30 days of joining is one of our Cub Scout Retention Best Practices. Learning to start a campfire with flint and steel is a basic outdoorsman's skill that supports our council's theme, "We Make Real Scouts." Put the two together and we have the Bobcat Hot Spark Program.
When new Cubs earn their Bobcat Badge, our council will provide the pack with a hot spark fire starter to be presented with their Bobcat badge at a pack meeting. But wait, there's more. We suggest packs turn the hot spark presentation into an exciting program by teaching the Cubs how to use the hot spark and running a den relay challenge during the pack meeting.
But wait, there's more! Invite your Unit Commissioner, DE or the SE to attend and they will help conduct the Hot Spark Challenge. Check out this photo from Pack 106 Hot Spark Challenge last week.

Youth Protection Training
| Required every two years.
|
The Boy Scouts of America place the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, all adult leaders must take Youth Protection Training at time of registration and repeat the training every two years. If you do not have a current certification, you must complete the training or discontinue your association with the BSA until completing the training.
YPT can be completed in as little as 40 minutes at www.myscouting.org. Enter your BSA registration number (printed on your registration card) when setting up your myscouting account to ensure proper credit. If you don't know your BSA registration number, contact the Council Service Center for help.

Campmaster Program
| News!
|
The Alabama-Florida Council started using the CampMaster reservation program three years ago to handle summer camp reservations.
Originally a Wood Badge project, CampMaster was developed for use by the Circle Ten Council based in Dallas, TX - It is designed totally for use by Scouts to register for Scouting events.
With the addition of an online payment feature, the Alabama-Florida Council will be moving to use CampMaster exclusively to register for camps and events. Each Pack, Troop, and Crew will need to have someone that is familiar with CampMaster in order to register Scouts. While an option will remain to register at the Council Service Center, it is encouraged to use CampMaster for convenience, time savings, and confirmation of class selections for events like Merit Badge University and Summer Camp.
To sign up for a CampMaster account (it's free), go to alabamaflorida.camp-master.com If you have questions about CampMaster, need guidance, or have questions, contact alflreservations@gmail.com
