Cub Resident Camp and Boy Scout Summer Camp Registration
Signup deadline is
Friday, May 3, 2013
Get your FINS UP and get ready for Cub Resident Camp and Boy Scout Summer Camp!  2013 marks the 55th camping season at Camp AlaFlo and we couldn't have a more exciting program in store for you.

Don Salt is stepping into the Program Director position for the Boy Scout Camps--all three weeks of them.  Christine Martin will return as the Program Director for Cub Resident Camp.  These two know more about Scouting than you can imagine, so this summer is sure to be packed with great adventure.

First, you've got to get signed up.  All Cub Resident Camp and Boy Scout Summer Camp registration is done online at CampMaster.  The registration is entered by Unit from a designated leader.  If you are not sure who your designated leader is, contact Scott Carpenter at [email protected]

Don't delay - registration is open, now but will close on May 3, 2013!
Woodlore Camping School
Starts Sunday, June 2, 2013
Camp AlaFlo
New Brockton, AL
"We are not a club or a Sunday school class, but a school of the woods."  Lord Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell (1857-1941)

Woodlore Camping School is  outdoor training that teaches boys to make their own campsites by cutting down trees and lashing the tree limbs together to build their own tables, benches, chairs, tents, latrines, fire pits, use of the dakota, and to survive in the woods.

Woodlore is staffed and run (for the most part) completely by the all youth staff.  Primitive in its setting, Scouts become proficient in the art of Scoutcraft.

This year celebrates Woodlore Number 44!  Be part of this great outdoor camp school by registering at the Council Service Center or online at CampMaster.
2012 Journey to Excellence
Soon!
With 2013 Rechartering wrapping up this month, I hope you remembered to turn in your units 2012 Journey to Excellence report form. We are anxious to see how many units accomplished their goals for 2012.

The form was included in your Recharter packet along with the goals for 2013. If you didn't turn it in with your recharter, it's not too late to get into the office. If you can't find the form, you can download it from www.scouting.org/jte

Also, when you turn in your paperwork, do not forget to purchase your JTE recognition items to present to your unit for their accomplishments.
Camp Alaflo Maintenance Fund
Signup by Saturday, May 4, 2013, to Receive the Summer Camp Discount!
Our 2013 Family Friends of Scouting Campaign has set a goal to raise $8,758 for the Camp Alaflo Maintenance Fund. This includes costs for building materials, equipment repairs, equipment rentals, tools purchases, plus camp truck & tractor maintenance, repairs, fuel and tires.

When a Pack/Troop/Crew sets and achieves its goal, their unit number will be listed on a FOS Camp Support Board in the dining hall at Camp Alaflo, plus they receive a ribbon for their unit flag.

When we think of Scout camp, we think of the essential camp tool, the pocketknife.  All donors in the Family FOS Campaign of $25 or more will receive a limited edition Alabama-Florida Council pocketknife.

In order to provide an opportunity for local councils to communicate the impact of change or no change in the current policy on Membership Standards, the National BSA has developed a course of action that includes education on the current status, opportunities for local discussion and fact gathering on impact.  This process will assimilate the input of information from local councils to form a Regional Recommendation, and an education phase for voting members.  For this purpose, our Council Key 3 is hosting two Fireside Chats for our volunteers and charter partners to discuss this important topic and provide feedback to National BSA on the potential impact in the Alabama-Florida Council.

Please note that to facilitate the Fireside Chats, the Creek District Roundtable and Muskoke District Roundtable scheduled for March 21 have been canceled.

A FAQ page is available at our website at www.bsa3.org under the news tab.
