March 2014 Delegates Assembly
March, kicked off by an incredible PTA Night in Annapolis, was indeed in like a lion; MCCPTA will not, however, be seeing it go out like a lamb.  We remain focused on our priorities: building strong local PTAs and PTSAs, growing membership, and advocating with impact for our students and schools.

This month we'll review where we are and where we'll need to go on our budget advocacy efforts in the weeks ahead. We will check our progress towards topping 50,000 members and see if we have a winner for Membership Challenge #4. And we will tend to some PTA and MCCPTA housekeeping. I also plan to have a little fun with you at this, our penultimate, DA meeting.

Thanks again for all you do for our students and schools; your work and support is not going unnoticed and together we are making a difference for our children. I cannot overstate my gratitude for the time you and your communities continue to devote to getting our kids the education they need and deserve and making your schools the center of community.

Featured Business
This month, we will again focus on our MCCPTA advocacy work, including the status of efforts to secure additional state construction funding for our schools and to get the Board of Education's recommended operating budget fully funded.  We also expect to receive the report from our Nominating Committee, including the slate of officers for 2014-2015.

We've got some organizational housekeeping to do, taking a look at our email communications to delegates, looking at our MCCPTA bylaws with an eye to clarifying processes, and reviewing local PTA compliance issues and statuses.
Presidents & Principals Dinner
Can you think of a better way to spend an evening than kicking back and celebrating the work you've done this year for your students and school with hundreds of other PTA and PTSA leaders from Montgomery County and the State of Maryland, your principal, local elected officials, MCPS personnel, the Treasurer of the United States, and Leon Harris?  We can't either!

Presidents, don't wait another day to invite your principals to join you and place your reservation for our annual Presidents & Principals Dinner, Thursday May 1, 6-9pm, at the North Bethesda Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.  The evening celebrates the work of PTA in Montgomery County and our partnership with our schools and community.  We encourage  you to invite other PTA leaders, including your incoming presidents, to join you.  Reservations are being accepted now; seats are still just $50 per person.

MCCPTA has seats available for any PTA or PTSA president who feels his or her unit cannot afford the cost of the evening; contact Pam Loebach, our MCCPTA Office Administrator, for information.

MCCPTA Membership Challenge #4
It's not a question of if, it's a question of when!  Will YOUR membership check put MCCPTA's membership over the 50,000 mark?  If your school has members for whom county (and state) dues have not yet been remitted, send them in!  The PTA or PTSA that is responsible for putting us over the top will get two FREE tickets to our annual gala celebration, the MCCPTA Presidents & Principals Dinner, once again to be held at the North Bethesda Marriott and Conference Center, on Thursday, May 1, 2014, 6-9pm.

We want to be over 50,000 strong.  We are less than 2,000 members away.  If every school could try to get just 5-10 more members by April 15, we will do it!   And if your school sends in the check that puts us over the top, you'll enjoy dinner on us!
MCCPTA Delegate Cards: Redux
MCCPTA delegate cards will be required to vote at the March Delegates Assembly (DA); sorry, there are no exceptions. Cards will be required at our elections in April; no card, no vote.

Cards have been sent via the Pony to PTAs and PTSAs at their school for all units from which MCCPTA membership dues for a minimum of 25 members were received; this is all but a handful of schools. Membership dues are sent separately to both Maryland PTA for state and national dues, and to MCCPTA for county dues.

Delegates: If you do not yet have a card, check with your president and treasurer. If dues to MCCPTA have been paid, cards were sent; please ask them for yours.  Thanks!
