Highlights of February 2014 Delegates Assembly
So neither snow nor sleet nor freezing rain came between us and our February Delegates Assembly!  Thanks to those who came out for an evening packed with information and at which we were joined by a special visitor, County Executive Ike Leggett.

Advocacy was the constant theme of the evening, including the paramount importance of parents, students, and staff coming to Annapolis both for PTA Night in Annapolis on March 6, and to hearings on the school construction funding bills at 1 PM on March 6 (you can then just stay for the day!) and March 12. We also will need everyone to push, via phone calls to the County Executive in the next week or two, for operating budget dollars above the minimum required  by law; we cannot meet PTA priorities, including closing the gap, raising the bar, or training and retaining quality staff without modestly increased funding.

Thanks for all you do for our students and schools, and for the extra time you and your communities are putting in to get our children the education they need and deserve.

Featured Business
At this session, we were updated on MCCPTA advocacy work and plans, including the status of efforts to cancel MSA testing and secure additional state construction funding for our schools, got a reminder from our Nominating Committee that nominations are now open with a March 15 deadline fast approaching, heard from the chairs of our Awards and Presidents & Principals Dinner committees, got a tour of our MCCPTA website, and learned we all need to make one more push to reach 50,000 members.

Delegates also voted to fill the vacancy in our Vice President for Educational Issues position through the end of the current term (May 1, 2014); thank you to Deb Lang, eCommunications Chair, who was elected and will serve the remaining weeks of the term.
Annapolis, We're Coming Back!

Really, we are!  PTA and MCCPTA leaders, members, and many of their students, as well as County Executive Ike Leggett, Superintendent Josh Starr, and many members of the Board of Education and County Council are heading to Annapolis on Thursday evening, March 6th.

We are asking every one of you to join us--and to bring your friends, neighbors, grandparents, and students--when we go to the rescheduled, Winter weather-free, Maryland PTA Night in Annapolis. You are welcome to meet us there around 6pm OR to take one of the school buses MCCPTA is sending from five points throughout Montgomery County; CLICK HERE for details and links to register to ride FREE from Bethesda, Germantown, Poolesville, Rockville, or Silver Spring. Register soon, seats are filling up!

Please remember that due to security in the State buildings, ALL ADULTS MUST BRING A PICTURE ID TO ANNAPOLIS.
MCCPTA Presidents & Principals Dinner
MCCPTA Presidents & Principals Committee Chair Jill Trone unveiled the amazing keynote speaker and master of ceremonies lined up for this year's gala.  Who?  Check it out HERE on our MCCPTA website.

PTA and PTSA presidents:  Invite your principals now to join you on Thursday May 1, 6-9 pm, at the North Bethesda Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, for an evening celebrating the work of PTA in Montgomery County.  We also encourage  you to have other PTA leaders, including your incoming presidents, join you.  Tickets will be available soon for $50 per person.  MCCPTA will have seats available for any PTA president who feels his or her unit cannot afford the cost of the evening; we strongly encourage all to attend.
MCCPTA Annual Achievement and Special Education Awards:
Nomination Deadlines March 7 and 9
Nominations are open for 2013-2014 MCCPTA Achievement Awards and our MCCPTA Special Education Awards for the special volunteers, educators, community partners, students, and/or staff members in your community.  MCCPTA Achievement Award information can be FOUND HERE on our MCCPTA website; our Awards Toolkit is one of many resources to be found under "Tools" on the menu bar. MCCPTA Special Education Award information and nomination form can be FOUND HERE.

Don't delay; the deadline for MCCPTA Achievement Award nominations is March 7, 2014; the deadline for the MCCPTA Special Education Awards is March 9, 2014.  The MCCPTA Achievement Awards will be announced at our Presidents & Principals Dinner on May 1, 2014, at the North Bethesda Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.  Our 26th Annual MCCPTA Special Education Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014, at Rockville High School.
MCCPTA Membership Challenge #4
We're still waiting for the check that will put MCCPTA's membership over the 50,000 member mark.  If your school has members for whom county dues have not yet been remitted, send them in!  The PTA or PTSA that is responsible for putting us over the top will get two FREE tickets to our annual gala celebration, the MCCPTA Presidents & Principals Dinner, once again to be held at the North Bethesda Marriott and Conference Center, on Thursday, May 1, 2014.

We need to be over 50,000 strong.  We are almost there.  Urge your school to push membership just one more time and help do it!   You might even enjoy dinner on us.  Thanks!
