MCCPTA News and Updates                                             October  2013

MCCPTA and our local PT(S)As are off to an incredible start--over 250 leaders joined us for MCCPTA Fall Training on September 7 at Blair High School and over 150 delegates attended our first Delegates Assembly of the year at Carver. Meanwhile, all across the county, PT(S)As welcomed their communities back to school and to join and engage in PTA.

NEW!  MCCPTA has teamed up with DC United to bring you MCCPTA Day @ RFK!  Join us on Sunday, October 27, 1:30pm when we cheer on DC United and show everyone in DC how united PT(S)A is in Montgomery County!  CLICK HERE here to purchase discount tickets and/or to get more information.

Together, we make a difference for students and schools every day. We are PTA!

MCCPTA Presents!
That's Incredible
That's Incredible, our first MCCPTA Presents! program of 2013-2014, featured the inaugural winner of Gallup's Most Hopeful Teacher in America award, Westover Elementary School's own Mary Hawkins-Jones, and MCPS Teacher of the Year, Maryland Teacher of the Year Finalist, and Brookhaven Elementary School PTA Treasurer Cristina Ulrich. The Springbrook High School Drum Line made a special appearance, as did MCCPTA Legislative Committee Co-Chair and Richard Montgomery High School student Richie Yarrow.

This incredible September program will be rebroadcast on Saturday October 5 and Sunday October 6 at 9pm on MCPS TV, Comcast Cable channel 34, Verizon FiOS channel 36, and RCN channel 89. Tune in (or TiVo); you won't want to have missed this show, the wonderful insights into working with your child's teacher that were shared, or the sound of Springbrook.

MCCPTA Presents programs are held each month, the same night as the Delegates Assembly, starting at 6:30pm, and are open to all PTA members. Spread the word at your school.
Cultural Arts Showcases
The Cultural Arts Showcases are the perfect opportunity for PTA representatives to preview a sampling of performances already approved for our students' educational enrichment by the MCPS Superintendent's Committee for Performances. These acts are available to be contracted by your PT(S)A as part of your student enrichment work. The showcases are sponsored by Big Learning, a Champion Sponsor of MCCPTA (formerly MCCPTA-EPI, Inc.).

We Are on the Way to 50K
MCCPTA is on the grow. Ending last year with a membership of just over 47,900, we are aiming to top 50,000 members this year. If every PT(S)A meets our challenge of growing by 13 in '13, we will meet that goal. And, if we meet that goal, to borrow from America's Most Hopeful Teacher Mary Hawkins-Jones, we'll just have to set another membership goal!

Congratulations to Bells Mill Elementary School PTA, the winner of MCCPTA Membership Challenge #1 and a 5 lb. bar of the World's Finest Chocolate! Bells Mill ES PTA already has grown by--and paid MCCPTA dues for--90 members over their 2012-2013 total!

Announcing MCCPTA Membership Challenge #2: Every PT(S)A that increases its membership by at least 13 members--and pays dues to MCCPTA to document that growth by Novemeber 13--will be entered to win 13 $10 Silver Diner gift cards. Two lucky PT(S)As will win; winners will be announced at the November Delegates Assembly on November 26.

Need help and/or ideas?  Contact our MCCPTA Membership and Engagement Chair, Shruti Bhatnagar, or our MCCPTA Multicultural Awareness Co-Chairs, Frances Frost and Antonio Hernandez-Cardoso for tips and suggestions, or check out our online Membership Tool Kit.
