Highlights of September 2013 Delegates Assembly
MCCPTA welcomed delegates to the 2013-14 year with our first Delegates Assembly (DA) on September 24 at Carver.

We launched the year with an overview of our delegates' work, introduction of two budget resolutions, presentations by three committees, consideration of revised rules to guide our work and deliberations, distribution of membership awards from 2012-2013, the announcement of MCCPTA Membership Challenge #2, and the naming of the winner of Challenge #1!

It was great to see so many in September. Mark your calendar for October 22 for our next DA, and, if you can, join us on October 27 at RFK Stadium for MCCPTA Day @ DC United! We are PTA!

Three key pieces of work were introduced at this meeting: standing rules, the draft MCCPTA Operating Budget priorities resolution and the draft MCCPTA CIP Budget priorities resolution.

After discussion, questions, and several suggestions, the revised set of standing rules was tabled for our next meeting to enable MCCPTA Secretary-Delegates Assembly Kellie Schoolar-Reynolds to accurately incorporate those ideas. The standing rules guide the work of the delegates and the conduct of the monthly Delegates Assembly; unless and until the new set is adopted, MCCPTA will operated under the existing set of standing rules

Two budget resolutions--the proposed MCCPTA CIP Budget priorities and the proposed MCCPTA Operating Budget priorities--were introduced at the assembly. Delegates are asked to share these resolutions with their PT(S)As, to discuss them at their October board and general membership meetings, and then, to return in October to the Delegates Assembly meeting ready to discuss, recommend changes, and vote on a county-wide position based on the views of their local unit.
Membership Awards
Congratulations to Bells Mill Elementary School PTA, the winner of MCCPTA Membership Challenge #1 and that 5 lb. bar of the World's Finest Chocolate!  Bells Mill ES PTA already has grown by--and paid MCCPTA dues for--90 members over their 2012-2013 total!

Delegates also heard Membership Challenge #2: Every PTA and PTSA that increases its membership by at least 13 members--and pays dues to MCCPTA to document that growth--will be entered to win 13 $10 Silver Diner gift cards. PT(S)As have until November 13 to grow by at least 13 and remit dues to MCCPTA to be entered in the challenge. Two lucky PT(S)As will win; the winners will be announced at the November Delegates Assembly.

We also distributed remaining 2012-2013 MCCPTA and Maryland PTA membership awards. Those not collected are being sent by Pony to honored schools. CLICK HERE for a list of schools that received MCCPTA membership honors last year.
MCCPTA Committees
Three MCCPTA committee chairs/co-chairs introduced themselves and the work of their committees; learn more about the three featured committees by clicking below:
MCCPTA works on a broad range of issues through our committees; one may be a match for your interest or the interests of members of your PT(S)A. We will feature different committees at our meetings each month so delegates are fully informed of all PTA is doing in Montgomery County.
MCCPTA Presents:  That's Incredible!
Many delegates got to see--or at least hear--the tail end of our first MCCPTA Presents! program of the year. Our program, That's Incredible, featured the inaugural winner of Gallup's Most Hopeful Teacher in America award, Westover Elementary School's own Mary Hawkins-Jones, and MCPS Teacher of the Year, Maryland Teacher of the Year Finalist, and Brookhaven Elementary School PTA Treasurer Cristina Ulrich. The Springbrook High School Drum Line made a special appearance, as did MCCPTA Legislative Committee Co-Chair and Richard Montgomery High School student Richie Yarrow.

September's program will be rebroadcast on Saturday October 5 and Sunday October 6 at 9pm on MCPS TV, Comcast Cable channel 34, Verizon FiOS channel 36, and RCN channel 89. Tune in (or TiVo); you won't want to have missed this show.

MCCPTA Presents programs are held each month, the same night as the Delegates Assembly, starting at 6:30pm, and are open to all PTA members. Spread the word at your school!
