MCCPTA News and Updates                                                       June  2013

Two weeks left in this school year; where did the time go?

At MCCPTA, we're not only not winding down, we're gearing up. This Wednesday, June 5, from 6-9:30 pm join us for leadership training at Wootton High School; over 250 PTA leaders are already registered, but we always have room for more.  Later in June, our new MCCPTA officers will be crisscrossing the county to hear from all our local PTA leaders about the issues that matter to their communities at our annual summer area meetings. And next month, many of us from Montgomery County will be attending the Maryland PTA Summer Convention, a chance to network and share with counterparts from across the state.

Thanks to all those whose efforts and support made 2012-2013 an outstanding year for PTA in Montgomery County.

MCCPTA Spring Training
If you are a new or returning PT(S)A officer or a member looking to get more active, join us for our annual MCCPTA Spring Training, this Wednesday, June 5, 6:00-9:30 pm at Wootton High School, 2100 Wootton Parkway, in Rockville. Our Training Chair Suzanne Weiss is busy putting the finishing touches on an evening well worth your time.  MCCPTA Spring Training is FREE to all PTA members; a pizza dinner will be served. CLICK HERE to register.

MCCPTA Spring Training offers classes for EVERY new and returning officer and workshops on a host of topics to get your school's PT(S)A off to a running start. Beyond valuable, time-saving information, the evening also affords the opportunity to network with other local PTA leaders and to get to know the leaders of MCCPTA. CLICK HERE for a schedule and complete list of workshops.

Annual financial training--a mandatory requirement for all treasurers and one additional board member from each PT(S)A--will be offered; MCCPTA is pleased to welcome Maryland PTA President Rita Lowman to Montgomery County who will deliver two separate sessions of this training that evening.
Maryland PTA 98th Annual Convention
Two days, July 12-13, of training, networking, business meetings, and celebration. The convention will be held at the Sheraton Baltimore North in Towson, roughly an hour or less from most in Montgomery County. MCCPTA officers and board members will be attending and we strongly encourage each PTA to send at least one leader or potential leader to this valuable event.

Early registration is now being offered at a substantial savings; REGISTER AND GET MORE INFORMATION HERE. We hope you will join us!  You can help ensure the success of your PTA in 2013-2014 by loading up now on the knowledge, tools, and contacts to work smarter, not harder. Mandatory financial training also will be offered--and discussed--at this event.

MCCPTA has a limited number of scholarships available to support local PTA leaders who wish to attend this event, but you must act before June 7. Contact Frances Frost, MCCPTA Vice President for Administration for more information, via email at [email protected].
We Grew!
With almost half our Montgomery County PT(S)As growing or retaining their membership this year--some more than doubling their size--we had a feeling our countywide membership was on the grow. It was!

While the final tally for the 2012-2013 year will not be in until June 30, MCCPTA is proud to announce that we have topped our previous year's membership of 46,922, and anticipate a membership, when all those late checks roll in, at over 47,000 strong. Thanks to all the local PTA membership leaders whose work in letting parents, students, staff, and community members know the value of PT(S)A membership enabled Montgomery County's 190 PT(S)A units to turn up the voice in which we speak for our children, our families, and our schools.
Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

And not just any ballgame. It's Maryland and Virginia PTA Night, as the Nationals take on the New York Mets on Saturday, July 27, 3:05 pm. Advance, reduced price, $14 tickets are on sale until June 26. Bring the whole family and don your PT(S)A finest.
