MCCPTA News and Updates                                                            May  2013

At MCCPTA, we're getting ready to look back and celebrate a remarkable school year at our annual Presidents and Principals Dinner and our 25th Annual Special Education Awards Ceremony, even as we continue to advocate for the county budgets that will provide opportunities for every child and gear up for the year ahead. Be on the lookout for a schedule of our annual Area Meetings, the chance for our new MCCPTA officers to hear from all our local schools about the issues that matter to their communities.

Thank you to all those whose efforts and support have made this an outstanding year for PTA in Montgomery County.

President, Montgomery County Council of PTAs
MCCPTA Spring Training
Please tell all your incoming PT(S)A officers--as well as any and all active members--to mark their calendars and join us for our annual MCCPTA Spring Training, the evening of Wednesday June 5, 6:00-9:30 pm at Wootton High School in Rockville. Our Training Chair Suzanne Weiss is hard at work putting the finishing touches on an evening worth every minute of your time; more details will be available soon at www.mccpta.org. As always, MCCPTA Spring Training is FREE; light refreshments also will be served  CLICK HERE for a flyer to share with your PT(S)A.

MCCPTA Spring Training offers classes for EVERY new and returning officer with information to get your new PT(S)A leaders off to a smooth start. Beyond valuable, time-saving information, the evening also affords the opportunity to network with other local PTA leaders and to get to know the leaders of MCCPTA.

Annual financial training--a mandatory requirement for all treasurers and one additional board member from each PT(S)A--will be offered; MCCPTA is pleased to welcome Maryland PTA President Rita Lowman to Montgomery County who will deliver two separate sessions of this training that evening.
Maryland PTA 98th Annual Convention
Two days, July 12-13, of training, networking, business meetings, and celebration. The convention will be held at the Sheraton Baltimore North in Towson, roughly an hour or less from most in Montgomery County. MCCPTA officers and board members will be attending and we strongly encourage each PTA to send at least one leader or potential leader to this valuable event.

Early registration fees are now being offered at a substantial savings; REGISTER AND GET MORE INFORMATION HERE. We hope you will join us!  You can help ensure the success of your PT(S)A in 2013-2014 by giving your incoming presidents and board members the knowledge, tools, and contacts they need to work smarter, not harder. Mandatory financial training also will be offered--and discussed--at this event.

MCCPTA has a limited number of scholarships available to support local PTA leaders who wish to attend this event, but you must act fast. Contact your cluster coordinator for more information.
Presidents & Principals Dinner
Our annual celebration of PTA and public education in Montgomery County, the MCCPTA Presidents and Principals Dinner, will be held Thursday May 9, 6-9pm, at the Bethesda North Marriott and Conference Center.

Andrea McCarren of WUSA-9 will be the evening's mistress of ceremonies as we celebrate the efforts of PTA volunteers with annual awards, roast our outgoing officers, induct our MCCPTA 2013-2014 officers, area vice presidents, and cluster coordinators, and enjoy student performances, including the performances of several students who won state honors in this year's PTA Reflections program. We look forward to hosting about 400 community members, including PTA and MCPS leaders, the Board of Education, local elected officials, and our MCCPTA sponsors, whose generosity helps enable the work of MCCPTA. We hope your PTA has made reservations for this wonderful night!

Sponsorship opportunities for individuals, organizations, and businesses are available year-round; CLICK HERE to learn more about becoming an MCCPTA sponsor.
Membership Challenge and Award Winners!
Thanks to all for your efforts to sustain and grow PTA membership! As of early May, MCCPTA was at almost 47,000 members; we are on track to top our previous year's membership!

Congratulations to Cloverly ES PTA, the winner of our MCCPTA Membership Challenge!  Thanks to the generous support of Silver Diner, MCCPTA awarded Cloverly PTA with $250 in Silver Diner gift cards at our Delegates Assembly in April!

The winners of our annual MCCPTA Membership Awards will be announced at the Presidents and Principals Dinner on Thursday, May 9. Come prepared to cheer for the schools that grew and sustained parent involvement through PTA membership this school year! All local PT(S)As who grew membership this year will be publicly recognized, and awards also will be announced for schools with the largest memberships and with the greatest engagement based on their member to student enrollment ratios. Details on these awards can be found HERE It's a secret, but we even have a record-setting achievement to share!
