Highlights of April 2013 Delegates Assembly
Our last Delegates Assembly (DA) of the year was held Tuesday April 23 at Richard Montgomery High School. The evening was highlighted by our annual elections for officers, AVPs, and cluster coordinators; those elected will be installed at our Presidents and Principals Dinner on May 9 and take office immediately after. Delegates also discussed and passed a resolution on elementary grading and report cards.

Thank you to all those who served as delegates this school year. The assemblies have been well attended, the debate robust, and I have learned much from you. A special thank you to Vice President for Educational Issues Lynne Harris who presided over the final session in my absence. I wish you a wonderful end of the school year, a spectacular summer, and hope we will work together again through PTA in 2013-2014.

President, Montgomery County Council of PTAs
Featured Business
This month's meeting featured elections for MCCPTA officers, area vice presidents, and cluster coordinators, and passage of a resolution on elementary school grading and reporting. We looked at the year in review and continued to collect One Voice postcards as well.

Reminders were given to delegates to make sure incoming PTA officers were aware of--and to strongly encourage their attendance at--MCCPTA Spring Training, June 5, 6-9:30pm at Wootton High School, and Maryland PTA Summer Convention, July 12-13, in Towson.  Both events are well worth the time and investment of incoming PTA/PTSA officers and committee chairs. MCCPTA has a limited number of scholarships available; contact your cluster coordinators for more information.
PTA Training Opportunities:
Let Your Incoming Presidents, Officers, and Board Members Know
You can help ensure the success of your PT(S)A in 2013-2014 by giving your incoming presidents and board members the knowledge, tools, and contacts they need to work smarter, not harder. Forward this email and tell them about two unique opportunities that will get their year off to a great start:
  • MCCPTA Spring Training. This evening of training for all incoming and returning PTA officers and leaders will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 6-9:30pm at Wootton High School in Rockville. Training is FREE; a benefit of your membership in MCCPTA. Light refreshments will be served. CLICK HERE for more details.
  • Maryland PTA 98th Annual Convention. Two days, July 12-13, of training, networking, business meetings, and celebration. The convention will be held at the Sheraton Baltimore North in Towson, roughly an hour or less from most in Montgomery County. MCCPTA officers and board members will be attending and we strongly encourage each PTA to send at least one leader or potential leader to this valuable event. Early registration fees are now being offered at a substantial savings; REGISTER AND GET MORE INFORMATION HERE. We hope you will join us!
Budget Advocacy Postcard Campaign:
Time Running Out to Get The Cards In!
At the County Council public hearings on April 10, just over 1,000 One Voice postcards were delivered to the Council clerk during the testimony of MCCPTA President Janette Gilman.

But that means many cards are still outstanding.

If you have blank cards, please continue to work to get them filled in and signed at your PTA/PTSA events early this month. Then, get them in!  We continue to collect cards, which may be returned:
  1. At the Presidents and Principals Dinner on May 9; or
  2. Via PONY mail; please put in to the PONY by May 10.
More information--including instruction sheets for completing the postcards in six languages--is posted at our MCCPTA website. We urge you to get your school community involved and thank you for your support!
Membership Challenge and Awards
Congratulations again to Cloverly ES PTA, the winner of our MCCPTA Membership Challenge!  Thanks to the generous support of Silver Diner, MCCPTA awarded Cloverly PTA with $250 in Silver Diner gift cards at this meeting. Bravo!

Don't forget.  The winners of our annual MCCPTA Membership Awards will be announced at the Presidents and Principals Dinner on Thursday, May 9. Come prepared to cheer for the schools that grew and sustained parent involvement through PTA membership this school year!
MCCPTA Presents: Vendors Showcase
This month's MCCPTA Presents program, held prior and during the Delegates Assembly, featured local and national businesses and organizations who have services of interest to PTAs. We had everything from after school activity options, to directory providers, to fundraisers on hand; all vendors are proud sponsors of MCCPTA.
