MCCPTA headed to Spring Break after a productive March Delegates Assembly, and knowing much work lies ahead upon our return, including County Council Budget Hearings, April 9-11. Delegates, PT(S)A leaders, parents and students are strongly urged to find one hearing session to attend. Our voice, and your presence, will make a difference.
Our final MCCPTA Delegates Assembly of the year will be held on April 23rd at Richard Montgomery High School. I hope many of you reading this also will join us for the Presidents and Principals Dinner, May 9, 6-9 pm at the North Bethesda Marriott; this is a great night for PTA in Montgomery County, and, notwithstanding the name, is not for presidents only.
President, Montgomery County Council of PTAs

Featured Business
Delegates debated, amended, learned a bit about Robert's Rules, and passed the resolution on Encouraging Local PTA Advocacy to Reduce Gun Violence introduced by the Takoma Park Elementary School PTA; this resolution commits MCCPTA to prioritizing advocacy on behalf of National PTA positions on this issue.
In addition, a resolution was introduced on elementary school grading and reporting; that resolution was brought forward by the MCCPTA Curriculum and Gifted Child committees after approval by the MCCPTA Board of Directors. Debate and discussion of that resolution will take place at the April DA.

Budget Advocacy Postcard Campaign PT(S)As are asked to return these postcards by April 5 to the MCCPTA office. The postcards can be collected and returned via PONY mail to the MCCPTA office. We will present all the postcards collected to the County Council at the budget hearings in early April.
Delegates at our February and March meetings were asked to bring MCCPTA postcards back to their school(s). Cards also have been distributed to PTAs unable to attend these meetings via our MCCPTA office; if you still need cards contact our office administrator, Pam Loebach, at office@mccpta.com.
Details on the One Voice campaiign--including instruction sheets for completing the postcards in six languages--are posted at our MCCPTA website. We urge you to get your community involved, get the cards signed, and send them in! |

MCCPTA Presents:
Safe Routes to School This month's MCCPTA Presents program featured two speakers from the county's Department of Transportation, Nadji Kirby, Planning Specialist III, Safe Routes to School Coordinator, and Jeff Dunkel, Pedestrian Safety Coordinator. They covered the County's pedestrian safety program, Safe Routes to School, what Montgomery County is doing to make the areas around our schools safer, and took questions and input from attendees. Our final program in April will feature a vendors' showcase full of great ideas and community partners for incoming and current PTA leaders. Please encourage your incoming PT(S)A presidents, vice presidents, and potential committee chairs to attend.
MCCPTA Presents programs have been held each month, the same night as the Delegates Assembly, and are open to all PTA members. Thanks to MCCPTA Vice President for Programs Shebra Evans for a wonderful, informative series! |

Membership Challenge March 31 Deadline is Fast Approaching
MCCPTA challenged all local PTAs and PTSAs to work like mad in March to grow membership at least to the level they reached last school year. Thanks to the generous support of Silver Diner, MCCPTA has $250 in Silver Diner gift cards to award one PTA that did just that! CLICK HERE for MCCPTA contest rules and details.
MCCPTA membership numbers as of March 31 also will be used to determine Membership Award winners for the current year; those winners will be announced at our Presidents and Principals Dinner on May 9th. Don't let your PTA miss out!
