Starr, Board of Education (BOE) President Christopher Barclay, BOE Vice President Phil Kauffman, and members Ms. Shirley Brandman, Dr. Judith Docca, Mr. Michael Durso, Mrs. Rebecca Smondrowski, and Mr. John Mannes, and County Councilmember Nancy Floreen are scheduled to attend the MCCPTA forum.

PTA LogoCounty Executive Leggett, Superintendent Starr, BOE President Barclay, and a County Councilmember will each make brief opening remarks; following those statements, the forum will be opened up to questions from audience members. The speakers were asked to address the following questions in their introductory statements:
  • What do you see as the most pressing educational priorities in our county and how does the Board's Recommended Operating Budget for FY 2014 address these priorities?
  • Given several years of steep budget cuts, climbing student enrollment, and the changing demographic of our student population, does the proposed budget meet student and staff needs? Is it sufficient?
  • Does this budget enable robust efforts to close the achievement gap while raising the bar? How?
  • Given new state-mandated curriculum and tests, how does this budget position MCPS to prepare for and address these new requirements?
