February 2013 Delegates Assembly
February is the sweetest--and shortest--month, and this month our Delegates Assembly also will be short and sweet.

We have flipped our schedule on Tuesday, February 26, to allow ample time for our annual MCCPTA Operating Budget Forum; County Executive Ike Leggett, Superintendent Joshua Starr, and many members of the Board of Education and County Council have indicated they will participate.

T
he Delegates Assembly (DA) will run from 6:30 to 7:25 PM in the Carver Auditorium; it will be followed immediately by the Operating Budget Forum at 7:30 PM.  We'd love to see you there!

President, Montgomery County Council of PTAs
Featured Business
This month's brief meeting will feature updates on the planned MCCPTA school budget advocacy campaign--including distributing postcards to take back to your schools for members to sign--our membership challenge, programs, and the work of our nominating committee.

In addition, PTA members from the Blair Cluster will introduce a resolution on Advocacy to Reduce Gun Violence. Delegates are asked to bring this resolution back to their local PTAs for consideration; debate and discussion of the resolution will take place at the March DA.
Budget Advocacy Postcard Campaign
Every delegate at this month's meeting will be asked to bring a bundle of MCCPTA postcards back to your school(s). Cards will be bundled in sets of 100; delegates are invited to take more than one set. Instructions will be included in the DA meeting packets. The postcards are part of our campaign to show the support of our 40,000+ strong PT(S)A members and school communities for local funding for education.

PT(S)As are asked to find opportunities--PTA meetings, PTA events, school events, athletics events, music assemblies--in March to have parents and staff sign these pre-printed cards.

The postcards are to be collected and returned--at our next Delegates Assembly in March or via PONY mail--to the MCCPTA office. We will present all the cards collected to the County Council at the budget hearings in early April.

PT(S)As not represented at the February DA will be sent postcards via the PONY to their schools.  More information will be sent out via the MCCPTA Presidents e-List.
MCCPTA Presents:
FY 2014 Operating Budget Forum
This month's MCCPTA Presents program will be held on Tuesday, February 26 AFTER our Delegates Assembly, 7:30-9 PM in the Carver Auditorium.

The Forum will begin with opening remarks, followed by the opportunity for members of the audience to ask questions of Superintendent Starr, County Executive Leggett, members of the Board of Education, and members of the County Council.
MCCPTA Presents programs are held each month, the same night as the Delegates Assembly, and are open to all PTA members. Help spread the word at your school; please share the calendar of programs available HERE at www.mccpta.org.
MCCPTA Awards:
Who Will Your PTA Nominate?
Our MCCPTA Awards Committee, chaired by Jill Trone, shortly will be calling for nominees for MCCPTA honors; award winners will be announced at our annual Presidents and Principals Dinner on Thursday, May 9. The following honors are open for nominations; criteria and deadlines will be sent via our e-Lists and posted in our Awards Toolkit at the MCCPTA website.
  • PTA President of the Year, 2012-2013
  • Partner in Education
  • Maryland PTA Lifetime Membership
  • National PTA Lifetime Membership

Take the time to recognize a PTA volunteer or PTA partner with a nomination.  Thank you for your support.

Delegate Cards
Please remember that DELEGATE CARDS are required to vote at this DA and for all DAs for the remainder of the year. Cards will be available from 6:15-6:30 in the hallway outside the Auditorium.  Delegates MUST show their 2012-2013 PTA membership card--and their PT(S)A must have paid dues to MCCPTA--to collect their Delegate card. Cards are only handed out, per the current Standing Rules, to the individual delegate.

Check with your PTA treasurer or Pam Loebach, MCCPTA Office Administrator, today if you have any question as to whether your PT(S)A has remitted dues to MCCPTA or if you have been turned away previously. We want every delegate in attendance to be able to vote.
