Thanks to the many delegates who packed the Carver auditorium at our October MCCPTA Delegates Assembly (DA) last Tuesday, October 23. If you were not there and are wondering what a full house at Carver looks like--and curious about what PTA in Montgomery County today looks like--CLICK HERE to see photos of the evening. MCCPTA is the face--and the voice--of every child in Montgomery County Public Schools.

School Budget Priorities Adopted
After much thoughtful debate--and not a little discussion of grammar--delegates approved the priorities that will guide local PTA and MCCPTA budget advocacy this school year, for both the Operating Budget and the Capital Improvements Program Budget.

Technology Initiative Update
Superintendent Starr and the Board of Education have proposed a technology initiative that seeks to eliminate disparities between schools, and create an equitable, consistent base of technology across our school system; both MCCPTA budget priorities approved by the Delegates Assembly support such equity in technology.
Under the proposal MCPS would outfit all schools with wireless networks and complete the installation of Prometheans in all elementary school classrooms by the start of the next school year if the County Council approves funding and funding sources.CLICK HERE to read more details of the school system proposal.
S. Christa McAuliffe PTA has started an online petition in support of this initiative. CLICK HERE to view that petition.
If this initiative is important to your school community, contact members of the County Council and the County Executive by clicking on the links embedded in this email and let them know. As of this writing, there is also a County Council hearing on the topic scheduled for Tuesday October 30 at 1:30 pm; CLICK HERE for more details on the Council's hearing schedule, but be sure to watch for the status of County Council hearings due to Hurricane Sandy before heading to the Council chambers.
