October 2012 Delegates Assembly

Our October MCCPTA Delegates Assembly (DA) will be held Tuesday, October 23, starting at 7:30 PM in the Carver Auditorium, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville. We will be determining the budget priorities that will guide MCCPTA and local PT(S)A advocacy this year for both the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) and the FY 2014 Operating Budget. Delegates also will elect the 2012-2013 MCCPTA Nominating Committee.

At 6:30 PM, immediately before the DA at Carver, MCCPTA Presents will feature a panel, including an MCPS community superintendent, director of school support and improvement, principal, and teacher, discussing how to build successful school partnerships. Please spread the word about this program to your local PT(S)A members and school community.  All are welcome to attend.

ACTION ALERT: Dr. Starr and the Board of Education have proposed a technology initiative under which MCPS would outfit all schools with wireless networks and complete the installation of Prometheans in all elementary school classrooms by the start of the next school year if the County Council approves funding and funding sources. This initiative seeks to create an equitable, consistent base of technology across our school system. If this initiative is important to your school community, contact County Council members and the County Executive and make sure they know. Now. See below for more information and links to the contact information for these elected officials.

Three key items dominate our planned agenda this month. Delegates will debate and determine the priorities that will guide our budget advocacy this school year. You may review the draft MCCPTA Operating Budget priorities resolution and the draft MCCPTA CIP Budget priorities resolution HERE at www.mccpta.org, MCCPTA's new home on the interent.

We also will elect the MCCPTA Nominating Committee for 2012-2013. If you are willing and able--and interested--in serving on the committee, please contact your Area Vice President or MCCPTA Vice President for Administration Jaimie Jacobson at vpadmin@mccpta.com.
MCCPTA Presents:
Building Successful School Partnerships
This month's MCCPTA Presents program will be held on Tuesday October 23, from 6:30-7:30 PM, immediately prior to our DA meeting. Our October program, "Building Successful School Partnerships," features a panel of educational leaders including a community superintendent, a director of school support and improvement, a principal, and a teacher, to give us their perspective and guidance on how parents can most effectively interact with their children's school and school system. They also will welcome our questions.

MCCPTA Presents programs are held each month, the same night as the Delegates Assembly, and are open to all PTA members. To help you spread  the word at your school, please share the calendar of programs available HERE at www.mccpta.org.
ACTION ALERT:
Technology Initiative and Your PT(S)A
Superintendent Starr and the Board of Education have proposed a technology initiative under which MCPS would outfit all schools with wireless networks and complete the installation of Prometheans in all elementary school classrooms by the start of the next school year if the County Council approves funding and funding sources. This initiative seeks to eliminate disparities between schools, and create an equitable, consistent base of technology across our school system.

We heard during our MCCPTA Summer Area meetings in June that access to technology for every child was a core concern of PT(S)As and parents from all corners of Montgomery County. This priority appears in our draft budget priorities resolutions for both the CIP and Operating budgets.

If this initiative is important to your school community, contact members of the County Council and the County Executive by clicking on the links embedded in this email and let them know. At the County Council Youth Town Hall held on October 10, Councilmember Hans Riemer (At-Large) spoke in support of the initiative, while Councilmember Marc Elrich (At-Large) reportedly told students he "strongly opposed" the plan. Let your elected representatives know how your school feels; they were elected to serve you and your community.
