CHARTER SCHOOL FUNDING UPDATE
FROM THE ARIZONA CHARTER SCHOOL ASSOCIATION:

Thank you for your work in calling legislators. They are telling us that they have heard from parents and are working to make charter school funding a priority. Your voices make a difference. While the House and Senate have both introduced a K-12 budget that include more cuts to the charter small school weight, we continue to receive assurance from legislators and the Governor's Office that the budget will be amended to freeze the small school weight at FY16 levels. There is still much to be decided, so it is very important that our charter voices are heard. If you haven't already, please call House and Senate members and use social media to get out the word about freezing the small school weight for charter schools.

Sample messaging:
"Hi, I'm [name] and I live in your district. I'm calling today to ask that you freeze the Small School Weight cut that is impacting public charter schools in Arizona. BASIS works for my family, and I want others to have the opportunity we've had. The Small School Weight cut disproportionately hurts some of Arizona's best public charter schools, like ours, and we ask that you stop it before it does more damage."

Additional charter data talking points:
Arizona charters students outperformed nearly every other state on the Nation's Report Card in 2015 and exceeded the state average of students passing AzMERIT in 2015. Of the top 50 LEA's, 49 are charters in 2015 math and reading. With this record of success, we ask you to freeze the cut. Charter schools are working for Arizona students, and families are consistently choosing our schools. Please don't kill Arizona's charter movement.

Social Media:
Please use social media to support the small weight freeze. On Twitter, always use the hashtag #NoMoreCuts so we can find and retweet your messages.

T-SHIRT QUESTIONS
Many parents have had questions regarding shirt purchases through Smart for Charters.  This is a leadership project, so Boosters is not involved.  If you have questions, Ms. Das is the advisor and can answer them.
BOXES, PACKING TAPE & NEWSPAPER NEEDED
START DONATING NOW FOR OUR BIG MOVE!
BASIS Families, the school needs us to donate boxes, packaging tape, and/or newspaper so teachers can start packing for our big move to the new building. These supplies can be brought directly to the school so we can store them until teachers need them.  If bringing boxes, please break them down so they are easy to store.  Thank you!
