For the last couple of months I have been working on my Girl Scouts Gold Award project - an independent community service project that makes a lasting impact on those it aims to benefit. With my project, I hope to increase early literacy rates among local underprivileged children, preparing them for success once they reach school.
 
To accomplish this goal, I'm writing a simple learn-to-read curriculum that I'll explain to parents of those children at several seminars I host this spring for a local nonprofit organization called Maggie's Place. Each parent will leave this seminar with a book pack containing all the information they need to teach their children to read and inspire an interest in learning, along with a couple of early reader books they can practice with.
 
Here's where I need your help. If you already have any baby books or board books that you're willing to donate, I would be very glad to receive them. If you don't have any books but are still interested in helping me out, I have compiled a Wish List on Amazon.com (https://amzn.com/w/1M0WLXVF2TQVX) where you can purchase as many books as you would like and have them shipped directly to me. Any extra books that I may collect will become part of a standing library at Maggie's place that all of the parents and kids can access later on.
 
Donations may be dropped off at the front office. Thank you so much for all your help and consideration!

The school is in need of supplies! We are grateful for all the donations so far this year, but as you know we're in the middle of cold and flu season. Thus we could use your help stocking the school with supplies such as Kleenex, disinfecting wipes, paper towels and hand sanitizer. (We use the disinfecting wipes to clean door knobs, tables, and light switches to minimize illness). Below are a few Amazon links for the needed supplies. Remember to have your student show school pride by wearing a BASIS shirt on Fridays for "Spirit Friday."   On some Fridays, Boosters provides a special treat for students wearing any BASIS t-shirt.  The student must wear any BASIS shirt to receive a treat.
