A Message From San Francisco

District Attorney George Gascn

Earlier this month, I had the honor of being sworn in as the 12th elected District Attorney of San Francisco. I affirmed my commitment to prioritizing violent crime, addressing realignment, reducing truancy, and making victim services more accessible to underserved communities.

Since taking the helm last year, we have reduced the homicide backlog by 36%, resolving cases that have been languishing for years. Our Truancy Program at Burton High School is producing a 125% improvement in attendance from truant students. Approximately 400 cases have been resolved through our Neighborhood Courts and Neighborhood Prosecutors Program and we have expanded Victim Services office hours to the Bayview, Mission and Chinatown.

We have an incredible opportunity to do things differently here in San Francisco - and to create a model for California and beyond. I look forward to working with you on making San Francisco the safest big city in America.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Sincerely,
George Gascn

San Francisco District Attorney
