What's New At SacFaith TV

SacFaith TV is busy aligning new programming and making upgrades at the studio. A camera drone has filmed several events and makes for new possibilities at houses of worship, events and other places and people to be filmed and shown on our TV station. The Interfaith Council Night of Music and the Spoken Word, just filmed a couple of weeks ago, will be broadcast soon and some great video from inside St. Francis Parish Church and out, will be included in that hour-long program because of the drone, as well as traditional video and audio works done by the TV station professionals.  You can see some still photos from the Interfaith Council Night of Music and the Spoken Word evening in the ICGS Photo Gallery.

Sacramento Faith TV (formerly the Religious Coalition for Cable Television - RCCTV) provides faith and values programming from both local and national sources 24 hours a day on Cable Channels 20 (Comcast) and 19 (SureWest) in Sacramento County. The local programming is also available through simulcasting on sacramentofaithtv.org.

The City has signed off on the permit to build the new Friendship Park on North C Street. Work will begin after the first of the year and this newer, updated park will bring many improvements. Saturday, October 3 TEACH YOUR DIGITAL NATIVE TO KNOW THEIR OWN WORTH
TEACH YOUR DIGITAL NATIVE TO KNOW THEIR OWN WORTH

Saturday, October 3, 2015 - 8:30am - 1:30pm

Why focus on knowing self-worth? As early as middle school, kids are exposed to money-making activities in their cyber social realms that exploit them by convincing them of things that are not true, and getting them to focus on things that don't matter when it comes to sex and money. Internet porn, sextortion, sex trafficking and the intrusive manipulation of internet consumer advertising can be addressed by teaching children to know their worth as human beings, and how to put the role of money in their world into proper perspective.

"I Wish Someone Would Have Stood Up for Me" - The Story of Keshia Thomas

Last month, local Rabbis Mona Alfi and Nancy Wechsler both marched and carried Torahs on segments of the "Journey for Justice." This march from Atlanta to D.C. was sponsored by the NAACP and Rabbis, Clergy, Civil Rights leaders and activists from throughout the U.S. participated.  Rabbi Alfi and her son, Ezra marched in North Carolina and Rabbi Nancy in Virginia.

Both Rabbis had the honor to meet Keshia Thomas, an inspiring woman who works every day for racial justice and equality.  We are very lucky that Ms. Thomas will be in Sacramento to tell her incredible story. We are honored to be hosting Keshia Thomas, a civil rights activist,  a community bridge builder, and a woman of profound faith.

She will be coming to B'nai Israel on October 6th. The entire community is invited to join us in hearing her story and about her work.  I believe her message will be particularly inspiring to teens and young adults.

Here is a flyer.  Please feel free to share this information.

Shalom,
Rabbi Alfi

From the President's Desk
ICGS President Jon Fish writes:

When I was a boy growing up there were watering turns to make, hay to bale and haul, animals to feed, cows to milk and all kinds of things (corn, melons, vegetables, etc.) that would sort of bring summer and autumn to a close when harvest time came. One of my older relatives had a small and worn sign in a plow shed that was something akin to this: Join Goodreads

"Before the fruits of prosperity can come, the storms of life need to first bring the required rains of testing, which mixes with the seeds of wisdom to produce a mature harvest."

In northern California we know only too well about harvesting without enough rain - and we've learned to balance and plan closely. So it goes with life. Let us give consideration in October to praying for rain, working through moistureless storms of life, mixing seeds of wisdom with our actions so that a mature harvest will come our way. God bless you in these endeavors.
