What's New at ICGS?

A thrift store-type place to leave donations to benefit the poor and the needy has opened on North C Street across from Loaves and Fishes.  Joel S. is ram-rodding the effort and the launch of this venture is going well.

If you have things to donate it is easy to find. They are open five days a week from 9am until 4pm. Your thoughtfulness and goodness in sharing will always be appreciated.

What's Happening at SacFaithTV?
After being on hiatus for three months, new episodes of "30 Minutes of Faith", hosted by Jon Fish, will be airing in January - and new episodes for February and March are being filmed in January.  We appreciate the many faith leaders who are willing to come to our studio to be interviewed. It's a wonderful blessing to get to know the people in our community who serve with goodness and diligence. Watch for these new episodes on Comcast Channel 20, SureWest (Consolidated) Channel 19 or AT&T Channel 14 in January.

"30 Minutes of Faith" Schedule: Monday 7am and 7:30pm / Wed. 9pm / Fri. 6pm / Sun. 9pm. You can also watch "30 Minutes of Faith" on YouTube.  The local programming is also available through simulcasting on sacramentofaithtv.org.

New Members & Donations

News from The Village on North C Street - Stocking Caps, Socks and Gloves

Remember to call us (916) 801.8883 to have socks, mittens, gloves, stocking caps, scarfs, etc., picked up to be delivered to the Village so the homeless folks there will delight in their Christmas morning.  We want them to be warm and as comfortable as possible during the winter months. We tip our hats to the Winter Sanctuary program and all involved there. Most of it originates at the Village where those goodly people get on buses to ride to the area churches for shelter, food, cleanliness and friendship.  Please help us.  We will come to you and retrieve your gifting.  And, thanks so very much!

Gift Cards for Christmas Stockings Needed

Christmas stockings for homeless folks are now being put together by many interested groups.

We would like to attach $5 or $10 gift cards to each of them.

If you would like to help please send your gift card to:

International Campaign for Compassionate Cities
I am involved in establishing Sacramento as a participant in the International Campaign for Compassionate Cities. We have a community of supporters interested in driving this forward and we believe your organization's participation and support is key. This is the start of a conversation - a movement to be more kind in the way we operate as a community.  This is not a political thing, not a nonprofit trying to raise money - a movement for compassion.

It is so easy for you become a partner by just signing up your company.  Please reply and we'll add your organization name to the list of community partners, and notify you of the next meeting. Being a community partner will not add to your workload. The work you and your organization is doing now will be recognized as instrumental in building city with a bright vision for the future.

Background: The Charter for Compassion was founded by TED Prize winner Karen Armstrong in 2008. One of the charters initiatives is the International Campaign for Compassionate Cities which is a global campaign inspired by the Golden Rule (treat all others as you wish to be treated yourself) to raise awareness of the benefits of compassionate action. Its purpose is to encourage city leadership from around the world to create and bring together efforts towards increasing compassion through local initiatives, policy, and projects. Compassionate Cities current focus areas are compassionate action in city-wide innovation, social entrepreneurship, sustainability, community & civic engagement and governance. Compassionate cities was declared good public policy by the US Conference of Mayors. I'm confident when Mayor Kevin Johnson is approached he will be inspired to declare a Compassionate Sacramento. There are dozens of Compassionate Cities in California, it is time for the state capitol to become one too. I sit on the Compassionate California board of directors, which is pioneering the first State of Compassionate in the United States. I envision Mayor Kevin Johnson proposing the initiative to the Governor and sharing throughout the United States as the USCM President and national leader.

Be part of creating a more sustainable and compassionate region... state, nation, and world.

From the President's Desk
ICGS President Jon Fish writes:

Many celebrations are recognized this month to match our faith, our religion and our culture.  God smiles richly on us as we strive to become more godly in our actions and approaches.  I personally feel deeply blessed to reside in Greater Sacramento and to spend much of my life walking by faith.  Everywhere I go I bump into men and women who are trying to live by the tenets of their faith - to do good sometimes just for good's sake only.  This sort of life is easy to admire and appreciate.  Thank you for your example and God bless you during this holiday season. May it be a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukhah, a blessed Kwanzaa, a wonderful Bodhi and so much more as we draw near to the end of this calendar year. Stay happy. Keep believing. Thanks, again, for all you do that is good in our region.
