What's New at ICGS? |
We are hosting a Care for Creation conference in October -- and we're doing our 4th Annual Night of Music and the Spoken Word at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament; we're hosting an open house for the director of the FBI in our community, Ms. Monica Miller; we're doing Lunch With Clergy; we have a Thanksgiving and Christmas program unfolding to help those in need, as well as plans laid for things in 2015. We are busy. We are engaged in the community. We are striving to help spread the good news of all the faith groups. Come join with us.
|
Sacramento Faith TV |
A great way to spread the good news of your church or congregation! Call Ron Hermann at 916.519.0577
We continue our approach at building bigger and better programming every day, week and month. We are grateful to those who help in this effort. Television is a wonderful medium and 900,000 TV's exist in our broadcast area. We strive to bring interfaith faces and wording to everyone who tunes in to Cable Channel 20 (Comcast) and Channel 19 (SureWest) in Sacramento County. The local programming is also available through simulcasting on sacramentofaithtv.org.
"30 Minutes of Faith" show interviews with faith leaders throughout our region and the topics of discussion between Jon Fish and his guests is enlightening and informative. Schedule: Monday 7am and 7:30pm / Wed. 9pm / Fri. 6pm / Sun. 9pm
You can also watch "30 Minutes of Faith" on YouTube.

IGNITING HOPE GALA - SPONSOR OPPORTUNITIES FOR OCTOBER 24 EVENT |

Dear Community Leader,
There is a "missing man" problem in Del Paso Heights that results in 70% of young boys having NO father to look up to. You've heard the phrase "Like Father; Like Son." What happens to young boys when no father is in their life?
Most young men raised in this environment are confused about their identity and their role in the family as a husband, father and bread-winner. Children from fatherless homes account for:
* 63% of youth suicides * 90% of all homeless and runaway children * 85% of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders * 71% of all high school dropouts
This is the sad cycle of fatherlessness, passed on from one generation to another generation. We aim to stop this cycle of fatherlessness and prevent many of these young boys from living out a life of crime, violence and abuse, leaving behind young girls with children to raise on their own.
We need your help to "break the cycle of fatherlessness" in Del Paso Heights and then elsewhere in the Greater Sacramento Region. It takes men and women serving others, using their influence, and financial blessings to come together to "break the cycle."
Research has found that long-term mentoring has the ability to change the outcome of a young boy's future in dramatic ways. Boys who are mentored are:
* 46% less likely to use drugs or alcohol * 53% less likely to skip school * 33% less likely to resort to violence * 59% more likely to get better grades
We are seeking Sacramento area "difference makers" to partner with the Igniting Hope Gala on October 24. Please consider becoming a Corporate Partner or Sponsor and enabling STS to continue changing lives. Please contact us at (916) 285-5422 or visit www.teamsts.org.
Together we will make a difference!
With great anticipation, William H. Coibion, Jr. Founder and CEO Shoulder To Shoulder - a community sponsored nonprofit corporation
Partner and Sponsor Opportunities Shoulder To Shoulder seeks to unite corporate community leaders to join us in "Breaking the Cycle of Fatherlessness" in Del Paso Heights. Young men growing up generationally fatherless are raised primarily by a single mom or grandmother, and taught principally by female teachers in the midst of drug dealers, pimps, prostitutes, convicted felons, gangs, violence, addicts, and alcoholics, without any HOPE for the future.
Now is the time to reserve your partnership or sponsorship commitment to support this very important mission . . . saving a young man's life! Together we will make a difference in their future!

Saturday, October 18 HOST A DISCUSSION TABLE AT HEIFER BEYOND HUNGER CELEBRATION |
All Sacramento Faith-based groups,
This year marks the 70th anniversary of Heifer International.
Imagine-- 70 years and over 20 million families lifted from poverty to self-reliance! Heifer's successes can be attributed to hundreds of communities around the world--your church prominent among them--who are committed and caring partners sharing the vision of a just and sustainable world free from hunger and poverty.
During this anniversary year, in country-wide regional celebrations named Beyond Hunger, individuals, civic groups and faith communities like yours are invited to celebrate the progress being made in lifting up the problem of food insecurity and Heifer's unique community development solution.
Sacramento Area Heifer Volunteers will serve as host for Beyond Hunger. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2014, 1:00-4:00 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 2391 St. Mark's Way, Sacramento, CA 95864. Click on this flyer and news release for details.
We would like to invite any church social action committee which might have an interest (such as the Global Hunger Task Force or the Committee for Social Justice and Sustainability) to set up a discussion table or booth at the event.
This promises to be a well-attended and outstanding event. Please let me know if you would like to host a discussion table.
Thanks, John Brewer, Lead Volunteer jwb1worldfamily@surewest.net

From the President's Desk | |
ICGS President Jon Fish writes:
October really draws the line between summer and winter for me personally. School has been going a while now. Football season is full speed ahead. Cooler temperatures prevail (especially at night) and the daylight hours grow shorter. In my childhood we attended a harvest ball social affair at church and at that event my maternal grandmother had a stroke, was carried away and died later that night. My mind reflects on that heart-weighing event from childhood as October runs into view. However, there is much more in life than just a family passing... for one thing, it is about to be spring in the southern hemisphere. We rarely consider that. International Teacher's Day is in October. So is Columbus Day - quite a big deal in the America 's. There is United Nations Day and Navy Day in October. Children everywhere thrill at Halloween. My wife is a breast cancer survivor and October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. And on and on the list goes. There is much to admire and to sing our praises to. The ICGS has a busy calendar in October. We hope to see you at some of these events. Godspeed to each of you and your circle of associations...
