What's New at ICGS?

We have a Day of Dialogue this month. We are joining the Brahma Kumaris group to welcome a friend via a luncheon and speaking engagement. We are hosting a Care for Creation conference in October -- and we're doing our 4th Annual Night of Music and the Spoken Word at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament; we're hosting an open house for the director of the FBI in our community, Ms. Monica Miller; we're doing Lunch With Clergy; we have a Thanksgiving and Christmas program unfolding to help those in need, as well as plans laid for things in 2015. We are busy. We are engaged in the community. We are striving to help spread the good news of all the faith groups. Come join with us.

News from The Village on North C Street - Loaves and Fishes

Next September 2015 Loaves and Fishes will serve its 7,000,000th meal on North C Street. Please check out the following web site to help fund this and other efforts there ... http://www.sacloaves.org/fundraise

Friday, September 12 MISSION IN A MULTI-CULTURAL WORLD

  
Sunday, September 14 JEWISH FOOD FAIRE

The 37th Annual Jewish Food Faire, sponsored by Congregation Beth Shalom, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14th, from 9 am to 3 pm. 

 

The Food Faire will include a wide array of classic Jewish comfort foods, including stuffed cabbage, corned beef, latkes, bagels and lox, matza ball chicken soup, and homemade and imported baked goods, including rye, pumpernickel, raisin pumpernickel, and round challahs for a sweet year. This is the only place in the greater  Sacramento  area to sample and purchase iconic Jewish food.

Approach: Creation and Earth. The importance of teaching "Creation Care" in our congregations.
 
6:15   Rob Beggs: Basics Of Climate Imbalance
Approach: Specifics on impacts to water/drought in California and around the world, impacts to the poor, impacts on severe storms and wildfires, threats to the economy and national security.

 

6:45    Christine Bailey:  Respect For The Future 
Approach: The importance of water.  What we are facing -- a changing climate is troublesome.  On the flip side, working with good people to do something to help build up the community, love, etc., -- examples of some who are doing this.  We can provide resources (speakers, contacts, etc.) for faith groups who would like to take up this matter.

ICGS President Jon Fish writes:
 
When I was a boy - and into young adulthood - September generally meant going back to school, football season, the first formal dance of the school year, cooler weather and all that good stuff. There were new beginnings as we marched onward toward yet another school year completed. Hopes for good things scholastically, athletically and socially were all about us. I still believe strongly in hope.  Emily Dickinson penned, "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul; and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all." When the clouds look dark and the skies cloudy, let us hope for the sunshine and blue sky that will surely come.  When the roadblocks and ruts in the roads of life seem ominous, let us look to the day when removal and repair have taken place.  Let us be a hopeful people. It's as easy to look up as it is to look down. One well-known author said that she liked the dark, because without it "we would never see the stars."  They're shining for us. Keep plugging along in life. It shall be worth it.  Godspeed to all this September.
