What's New at ICGS?

In coming months the Interfaith Council is sponsoring some good things. We hope you will watch and come and join with us.  We shall do our 4th Annual Interfaith Night of Music and the Spoken Word in early October, in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.  We have a wonderful program put together once more. And the theme of the readings and music is peace. A few weeks later we do our annual Lunch With Clergy. We hope you will join us for that. A keynote speaker addresses while we eat with friends and associates. On November 11 we are going to have a Veteran's Day program in the cathedral downtown.  It is all about patriotism and those who have served our country.  It will be 10:30-11:30am and at eleven o'clock bells will ring out in the cathedral to mark that great historic Armistice Day of the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. We are also hosting a Christianity 101 3-hour seminar later this year.  We will follow that with Judaism 101 and Islam 101 to provide all faiths a chance to look at the various overviews of religion in our community.  We hope you will join us for that, as well. Keep an eye on the newsletter and check out our website at sacramentointerfaith.org

News from The Village on North C Street - Bottled Water Needed

One of the things that is needed the worst, during the month of August, is bottled water.  You can drop off your cases of that simple donation at Loaves and Fishes (warehouse) next to the first station where the big roll-up door is. Water, of course, is in short supply and water is the staff of life.  We encourage you to drop off bottled water at the Village on North C Street. It doesn't seem possible at this time that we would ever have too much.  Gather your family, spouse, friend, neighbor, youth group, elderly association or whomever, and make a "water run" down to the Village on North C Street. Please. And, thanks!

Saturday, August 2, 2:00pm-4:00pm INTERFAITH HARMONY PICNIC

Last February, we hosted our first World Interfaith Harmony Day in order to promote mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue as first steps to a culture of peace.

We had many participants from local communities of Atheist, Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, Unitarian Universalist and more showcasing their beliefs, traditions and sacred objects.

The day was a huge success and many of the participants asked for another venue, opportunity in which we could continue to dialogue and share.

In that spirit we are holding first Interfaith Harmony picnic on:

From the President's Desk
ICGS President Jon Fish writes:

Long ago -- in my high school years -- I read that there would come the day when there would be wars and rumors of wars all over the globe.  It kind of feels like we've reached that point. It feels certain that we should work for peace, that we should pray for peace, that we should practice peace.  We can begin at home, in our circles of associations and in our congregational gatherings no matter how large or how small they might be.  It was Albert Einstein who said, "Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding." That implies that we begin now to strive for that great understanding of peace in our lives.  We shall trust that heaven will smile abundantly on us, that we will achieve peace.
