News from The Village on North C Street - Loaves and Fishes

Next year (2015) Loaves and Fishes will serve its seven millioneth meal in Sacramento. That is a lot of service, a lot of food prepared, a lot of service rendered and a whole bunch of saving grace in allowing stomachs to be filled and lives to be satisfied for yet another day.  We tip our hats to Loaves and Fishes. Sister Libby directs so very well and has surrounded herself with an outstanding staff who do so much good for the Village on North C Street. We shall watch with interest as the daily meals go onward toward that No. 7,000,000.

Friday, July 11, RAMADAN FAST AND IFTAR

Dear brother/sister
Assalamu alaykum

May this message find you in the best state of eaman in this blessed month of Ramadan.

This July 11th, which will be the 14th of Ramadan, we are proud to invite you to a one of a kind event that will reflect the true spirit of Ramadan.

As part of our Heart of the Matter talk show, the Ramadan episode will feature an amazing host of special guests and speakers alongside myself, such as Dr. Jonathan Brown of Georgetown's Islamic Studies department and a rising muslim academic in the West, and Pastor Rick Cole of Capital Christian Center in Sacramento, CA. Fasting children will be recognized, and SALAM Elementary students will perform.

But this event can only be successful through your active participation!

Please invite your friends, and colleagues, Muslims and non-Muslims, to fast on that day and join us for an amazing program and an iftar, to experience the spirit of Ramadan.

The event is titled: "Struggling to Surrender" and will navigate through the merits of fasting and other forms of discipline and self-restraint in our modern world.

To honor our non-Muslim guests, we ask our community members to sponsor their tickets, which will cost $20 each including admission and food.

Again, please invite your neighbors, colleagues, classmates and acquaintances, Muslim and non-Muslims and join us on this beautiful Dawaa opportunity, Struggling to Surrender.

May Allah accept your fasting and good deeds in this blessed month.

Your brother,

M. A. Azeez

From the President's Desk
ICGS President Jon Fish writes:

In recent weeks I sat in an interfaith meeting where outreach between various religions was discussed. A great part of that meeting had to do with items that have to do with a lack for human life, i.e., rape (and other crimes against one another), trafficking, homelessness, poverty and other areas where respect for each other appears to be dying on the vine.  The faith leaders assembled spoke to what we might be able to do in our churches, synagogues, temples, mosques and gatherings to help with these issues.  We talked at length about God being no respecter of persons and the belief that we should each hold a strong desire to treat one another with care, respect and goodness. We also talked about taking the message into our homes to discuss and to practice.  Laura Ingels Wilder once said, "Home is the nicest word there is." I have always liked home and have felt sad for those who don't.  Perhaps in our desire to fix humanity, home would be a good starting point.  We trust you are well and safe. God bless...
