May 14 Anniversary of Imprisoned Bahá'í Leaders in Iran
May 14 is the sixth anniversary of the incarceration of seven leaders of the Bahá'í Faith in Iran who have been jailed for no other reason than their membership in this persecuted Faith.  For six years, these leaders have languished in jail, victims of a travesty of justice and condemned to the longest period of incarceration of any prisoners of conscience in their country.

Bahá'ís in the US are seeking support from the US Congress through House Resolution 109, which condemns the government of Iran for its persecution of Iran's Bahá'ís.  We hope to add to the 91 current cosponsors of the resolution, as the number of cosponsors will be seen by the Iranian regime as proof the resolution has strong support.

The Interfaith Council Board of Trustees recently sent a letter to Representative Tom McClintock (Granite Bay) of the 4th Congressional District, urging him to become a cosponsor.  We were happy to learn that Rep. McClintock has signed onto H.Res.109 and we appreciate his support.

We ask you, on May 14, to telephone the Washington offices of your congressional representatives and -- if they are not yet cosponsors of H.Res.109 -- to request their support. You may find out who your congressional representative is here. Information on current cosponsors of H.Res.109 can be obtained by accessing the list here. If your representative is not on this list, express your hope that the representative will cosponsor the pending resolution, H.Res.109, in defense of Bahá'ís and other prisoners of conscience. Ask sympathetic friends and relatives to join this effort.  Together we can stand up for religious freedom.
Each Mind Matters Campaign - May 18

I want to invite you to join me along with several churches and faith communities as we commemorate Mental Health Awareness Month in May. As part of the California Mental Health Authority's Each Mind Matters Campaign we will honor individuals and families living with mental health concerns the entire month of May and during a special Day of Worship on Sunday, May 18th; by wearing the green mental health awareness ribbons and taking pictures for a visible display of faith communities standing in solidarity to support wellness for our community. Pictures may be submitted to me and also posted on the church website and other social media sites (facebook, twitter etc.)

Some of the churches are even committed to having a special focus on mental health Sunday, May 18th, in service by showing the following video Each Mind Matters: Monique's Story  and reading a short message of hope.
