The year 2015 brings with it the celebration of milestones and the promise of another successful year of growth for The Harris Foundation.

This year, one of the foundation's flagship STEM programs, the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp (EMBHSSC), will mark its tenth anniversary.  Thanks to our partnership with the ExxonMobil Foundation, the EMBHSSC will be "Celebrating a Decade of Promoting STEM Academic Achievement" to students across the nation.  The EMBHSSCs give campers the opportunity to expand their minds and career horizons by exposing them to the infinite possibilities that STEM education has to offer.  This summer, camps will be held on twenty university campuses across America.  We are proud to welcome three new universities; North Carolina Central University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and the University of Southern Mississippi to the EMBHSSC family.  We are thrilled that our program will be reaching new territories and welcoming new students to the EMBHSSC experience.  A full list of our campsites can be found via the link in the 'Highlights in...' section of this newsletter.

Our Dare to Dream (DTD) program continues to make major strides within the community as well.  We are approaching our 20th anniversary working with schools in Harris County, Texas.  This school year we have a presence in ten Houston area schools; providing students with a curriculum focusing on self-improvement, community service and the career building skills necessary to become a productive member of society.  Prior to the end of 2014, we announced the launch of our campaign "Backpacks for the Future." Utilizing Pledge Cents' crowd funding platform, we are seeking support to further enrich the lives of the graduates of our many STEM-oriented programs.  The mission is to provide our graduates with backpacks filled with school supplies and a book to curb summer learning loss.

Lastly, The Harris Foundation is pleased to have administered the Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leaders (CHL) Award to recognize individuals who overcome daunting obstacles to improve health and health care for underserved communities. Over the course of twenty years, the CHL Award honored 206 individuals across America with the mission to support and sustain the capacity of these unsung heroes who demonstrate creativity, innovation and commitment to improving health outcomes at the community level.  We honor the legacy of CHL's service and commitment to its leaders.

As always, we thank you for your support and look forward to bringing you more great news in 2015.  Please follow us on social media at the links below to stay up to date on all that's happening!
