President's Message

Jim Sedgwick

Jim Sedgwick

2012 NAIOP WI President

Hello fellow NAIOPians.

READ FURTHER...this message is NOT about politics!

I don't even know what a "normal" news day looks like any more.  My house will be void of a constant barrage of phone calls with pollsters or folks soliciting my hard-earned cash.  My mailbox may soon gather cobb webs.  I don't know about you but I can hardly wait!

Back to NAIOP...while events are kept quiet during the summer months, we are working hard on planning for 2013 which marks our 10th year since opening our doors in October of 2003.  We will start out the year with our Annual Meeting on January 22 at the Wisconsin Club-City Club location.  In addition to our short business meeting, the event will feature guest speaker, Milwaukee Historian John Gurda.  We will welcome our new board members and reveal the remainder of the 2013 Calendar.  Speaking of new board members, the Leadership Continuity Committee, chaired by Immediate Past President, Shawn Cavin, worked diligently to identify Julie Ledger of Opus Development Corporation and Leslie Scherrer of the Peter Scherrer Group.  Both Julie and Leslie have worked hard on the Education and Programs Committee for the past several years and have risen to be leaders in the industry.  Look for the official ballots in December.

We've had a tremendous year and look forward to finishing it up on a positive note

with our Eighth Annual Market Update on December 12.  Details for this event are found later in this newsletter but I hope to see all of you there.

                                                                                    Until next quarter,

                                                                                    ~Jim

New Member Spotlight-Brandon Bergman, President, Naturequest 2000 Development

NAIOP Wisconsin is pleased to introduce Brandon Bergman, President of Naturequest 2000 Development where he specializes in land development, industrial build-to-suits, industrial leasing and residential land development.

  • Tell us a little about your company.

2000 Development Corporation is a 30 year old commercial real estate company specializing in land development, commercial property management, and residential subdivisions in southeastern Wisconsin.

  • Why did you get involved in commercial real estate?

I have a passion for real estate and have worked in the real estate field since the day I graduated from college.

  • Do you have a mentor?

Yes, my father and company founder John Bergman

  • What do you cook well?

I enjoy cooking many different things, but pizza is a favorite to prepare with my daughter.  Only fresh ingredients, dough from scratch, basil from the garden, homemade tomato sauce, venison sausage, or other seasonal ingredients.  I enjoy creating something special to share with family and friends.

  • Tell us something that most people don't know about you?

I have skydived but was unable to break the sound barrier.

  • Blackberry, Android or iPhone?

I made the switch to IPhone a year ago from my Blackberry.  I thought I'd never give up the trackball.

Welcome Brandon!!!!

Public Affairs Update

We are continuing our momentum in the Public Affairs/Public Policy arena.  Lobbyist Tom Larson in conjunction with members of the PA Committee have drafted 2013-14 Legislative Priorities.  The final document will be presented to the Board of Directors in December for approval and implementation.

NAIOP Members Meet with U.S. Senate Candidate Tommy Thompson

Twelve NAIOP members met with TT in October to get his perspective on the election and the economy.  As characteristic of TT, he also took a great deal of time to get to know each and every attendee and their business.  We also presented his campaign with over $10,000 in contributions from members and our NAIOP Corporate Political Action Committee.
