SUNDAES ON SUNDAY

Last week's Sundaes on Sunday was a big hit!  This Sunday Pastor Pete, Melissa, Emily and Hannah will treat the congregation to Sundaes on Sunday one more time before leaving for Europe.

Join them in the pastor's office and at the rear of the sanctuary for a real treat this Sunday after worship! When we meet, we eat!

An Offering Plate Sermon?

I have been alternately swearing at and praising my good friend Pastor Terry Williams this week.  Terry has put it into my mind to do an Offering Plate Sermon.  An Offering Plate Sermon will happen at Zion this Sunday in this way.

The focus text will be read early during our worship.  After time for reflection, anyone who wants to participate in writing the sermon will write down any question that comes to his or her mind about the focus text. Ushers will gather the questions in our collection plates.  I will then write and deliver a sermon based upon those questions.

In order to give you a head start (is that fair to the Pastor?), our focus text this week will be Romans 8:31-39.  Because our pew Bibles use the New International Version translation, it may be helpful to use that text version.

The Holy Spirit will move us to deeper and new understandings of these verses.

Special Gifts

Nom Doc Mai mangoes.  Absolutely the best mangoes we have every tasted!

And special blended coffee also from Pine Island, Florida.

Thank you Phyllis and Chris for these special gifts.

They have nourished and strengthened us during this past week!

Thank you for your thoughtful gesture.

SCHOOL SHOE PROGRAM

On Monday July 21, People In Need of Delaware County (PIN) will begin the annual School Shoe Program.  Now in the 16th year, this program has helped thousands of Low-to-Moderate Income children who reside in and attend Delaware County schools.

The parent of a child who meets the criteria stated above is given a gift card to the PayLess Shoe store to purchase one pair of shoes for the child to begin the new school year.  Parents often comment that if it weren't for this program, their children would not have new shoes to start the school year off right.

Last year, PIN provided gift cards for 517 pairs of shoes at a cost of $12,925.  We were only able to do this through the generosity of our community.  Please consider giving a monetary donation to this one-of-a-kind program that serves Delaware County children.

SILENT SANCTUARY

Do you enjoy the aroma of candles? Do you enjoy the setting sun through stained glass windows? Do you like watching the flickering of candlelight against the darkness? Do you like the thought of quiet meditation/prayer?

Please feel free to join Skylar Seward every Friday evening at 7:00 pm. for a quiet,"soul refreshing" time of renewal.  Stay for 10 minutes, an hour or even two...whatever you need.  Hope to see you there!

ALL are WELCOME!

This Week at Zion

The message on Sunday will be offered by Pastor Pete. The sermon this week has no title.  It will be an Offering Plate Sermon based upon questions submitted to the pastor by those in worship in regard to our focus text.  The focus text this week is Romans 8:31-39. The Old Testament reading this week is Genesis 29:15-28.    The Gospel reading is Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52.
