PASTOR PETE
NEEDS ASSISTANCE!

Melissa Peterson has been the backbone of our Getting Ahead serving meals program.  Melissa is undergoing unexpected surgery on Monday, May 5 - also the time of our next Getting Ahead program.  She will be unable to be present.  Pictured to the left are our volunteers from a recent Getting Ahead program meal.  We need volunteers for this Monday at William Street UMC from 4:45 until 5:45. Please let Pastor Pete know if you can help.

SILENT SANCTUARY

Do you enjoy the aroma of candles? Do you enjoy the setting sun through stained glass windows? Do you like watching the flickering of candlelight against the darkness? Do you like the thought of quiet meditation/prayer?

Please feel free to join Skylar Seward tonight
and every Friday evening at 7:00 pm. for a quiet,"soul refreshing" time of renewal.  Stay for 10 minutes, an hour or even two...whatever you need.  Hope to see you there.

ALL are WELCOME!

From the Pastor's Desk

Where is Emmaus?  According to our Gospel text this week, Emmaus was about seven miles from Jerusalem (sixty stadia, in the original Greek).  On the road to Emmaus, even though Jesus was with them all of the time, his companions were unable to see that it was Jesus who was present with them.  Is our journey so different?

It was in Emmaus, as they enjoyed table fellowship, that "their eyes were opened and they recognized him".  Where is our Emmaus? Where is it that our eyes are opened to Christ's presence with us, now and always. Perhaps it is at God's Table as we share Holy Communion as we will this Sunday.  Perhaps our eyes are opened as we engage those we serve in one of Zion's ministries.  Perhaps our eyes are opened to God's love and Christ's presence as we care for and nurture our families. Perhaps we arrive in Emmaus as we open our hearts in prayer.

Where is your Emmaus?

We are each on the Road to Emmaus, wandering in a broken world and searching for our risen Lord. I am sure the road traveled in our text by Jesus and his companions had many stones, many ruts and places which were uneven to travel upon.  The path we travel in our lives is not unlike that road.  We encounter the uneven and unexpected obstacles of life almost every day.  Yet we continue on our journey.  We travel toward Emmaus where, when we arrive, we will enjoy a divine meal and Jesus will be "made known to them [us] in the breaking of the bread."

Shower of Stoles at MTSO

An Extraordinary Collection comes to MTSO. Showing Now Until May 20, 2014.

The Shower of Stoles is a collection of over a thousand liturgical stoles and other sacred items representing the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender... people of faith. These religious leaders have served in thirty-two denominations and faith traditions, in six countries, and on three continents. Each stole contains the story of a GLBT person who is active in the life and leadership of their faith community in some way: minister, elder, deacon, teacher, missionary, musician, administrator, or active layperson.  The exhibit is free and open to the public. It is located between the Dickhaut Library and the Alford Centrum on MTSO's campus. The area is open from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m daily.
