PASTOR'S PURSE OFFERING SUNDAY

Two times each year the Zion Congregation supports special offerings for our Pastor's Purse. These offerings provide the resources for Pastor Pete to provide emergency relief to individuals within the community (including Zion) who present particular needs to be met.

This year's first Pastor's Purse offering will THIS Sunday, February 23. Please help if you can.

Hmmm? JON PETERSON APPRECIATION NIGHT?

Imagine my surprise when I received a telephone call recently the subject of which was to inform me that Marburn Academy will be sponsoring a gathering of parents for an Evening of Appreciation with Jon Peterson on March 11.

Marburn Academy is a nationally renowned educational program.  Marburn Academy was founded in 1981 by a group of visionary parents, educators, and civic leaders who saw our community's need for a school that would provide effective instruction for bright children whose learning differences prevented them from succeeding in traditional school programs. Marburn Academy serves students with average to superior intelligence who have been unable to learn in their previous schools due to difficulties often diagnosed as learning disabilities.

Many of the students attending Marburn Academy are recipients of the Jon Peterson Special Education Scholarship which benefits thousands of special education students throughout Ohio.  Our own Hope Robinson-Wileschael is a recipient of the Jon Peterson Special Education Scholarship and attends Marburn Academy.

Thank you Marburn Academy for having the vision to offer meaningful education programs to children who learn differently.  I can't wait to be with you on March 11.

IN THE MAILBOX LAST WEEK

Dear Pastor Pete,

Thank you so much for your generous contribution of $1,300 received recently to support the programs and services of Andrews House.  Your ongoing support and leadership along with the active ministry of your congregation brings love, hope, and relief to our community.

The energy, leadership, and support from Zion have been essential in bringing the Mobile Market to Delaware as well as fueling the ongoing effort to combat hunger in our community. As you well know, the Mobile Market served 125 households in December 2012 and reached 305 households in November 2013.  The commitment and dedication of "Team Zion" in the Mobile Market perpetuates this effort to address food insecurity in Delaware.  Additionally, your leadership and energy brought the film A Place at the Table to Zion to raise awareness and engage the community around the issue of hunger in Delaware County.

All of this and Zion's active involvement in Second Friday community meals and the Summer Lunch Program at Woodward School give pillars of support to the programs, services, and mission of Andrews House.  Your financial support helps us continue these programs and find ways to respond to emerging needs in our community.

We are very grateful for it.

Sincerely yours,

Melinda Corroto
Executive Director, Andrews House, Inc.

FAMILY PROMISE

Zion will soon be filling a gap for Family Promise. We will be hosting Family Promise the week beginning on Sunday March 2.  Several area churches have shifted their mission priorities, leaving some "gaps" in coverage at Promise House.  As is often the case, Zion has been asked to step forward to fill the gap.  We didn't hesitate to say yes immediately!  Thank you for continuing to support this meaningful program and for supporting vulnerable families in this community.
