***Congratulations to Mike Newcomb for his recent appointment to the Church Relations Committee for Delaware County Habitat for Humanity.***

HOW ABOUT THIS!

We are off to another great year of giving and caring.  The WOW wagon was full to the brim in January.  153 pounds!  This represents the highest total for a month in three years.  Many thanks to Lorna Patterson who requested that guests at her birthday party bring nonperishable food items instead of gifts.  Thank you Lorna for sacrificing "gifts" in order to give "GIFTS".

Last year's total was 1096 pounds.  We can do better!

IN THE MAILBOX THIS WEEK

Dear Team Zion,

We are sending a great big THANK YOU to you for your awesome support of our Getting Ahead program.  The meal you provided was wonderful - a perfect dinner for a chilly evening!  Your kindness and caring spirit made us all feel loved and cared for.

 - Bonnie Ristau, Getting Ahead

Dear Friends,

Holiday Clearing House 2013 has come and gone.  It was a huge success thanks to the kindness of hundred of donors and volunteers like you.  The HCH 2013 program provided gifts, clothing, toys and food to 547 families with children (1,254) and delivered gifts and food to 232 senior/disabled homebound individuals.  None of this could happen without your participation, compassion and giving from the heart.

- Lula Mae Downer, PIN Holiday Clearing House

Dear Zion,

We do appreciate having a place for our rehearsals.  Thanks for the many years of sharing your space with us.  In harmony,

- Ohio Heartland Sweet Adelines

THANK YOU MOP

Well, the parking lot at Zion is no longer a dark and forboding place at night. Thank you MOP (Ministers of Property) and AEP for the installation of more powerful directed lighting upon all sections of the lot.

As we continue to experience more and more guests using our facilities during evening hours, the new lighting creates a much more inviting welcome to Zion. Particular thanks go to Bill Keesee for his continued diligence in this effort.

FAMILY PROMISE

Zion will soon be filling a gap for Family Promise. We will be hosting Family Promise the week beginning on Sunday March 2.  Several area churches have shifted their mission priorities, leaving some "gaps" in coverage at Promise House.  As is often the case, Zion has been asked to step forward to fill the gap.  We didn't hesitate to say yes immediately!  Thank you for continuing to support this meaningful program and for supporting vulnerable families in this community.

STYLE SHOW

Willow Brook is presenting a buffet reception and eclectic, fun and offbeat Style Show.  Funky fashions and accessories will be featured as the Global Village Collection.  The event is Saturday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the Summit Room of Willow Brook at Delaware Run.

The featured collection promises quirky clothing and home goods with a promise of freedom from exploitation of children, families and the environment.  The fee is $10, reservations are required, and the reservation deadline is February 1.  Reservations may be made by calling 740.201.5687.

No sales will be made at the event.  This is just for fun and to benefit Delaware's nonprofit fair trade store!  Please plan to attend!

BELL RINGER OPENINGS

Please let Brian know if you have an interest in joining Zion's Handbell Choir.  There are currently several openings in this august body.

As you know, this is an important part of our ministry at Zion and we always welcome the opportunity to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!

The Zion Handbell Choir provides important worship offerings to share with the congregation and, as you know, the choir is an active participant in the annual Delaware Community Bell Concert held each year at historic Gray Chapel on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.

TOOL SHED

Our church Council has approved the construction of a storage facility for church equipment and tools.

Thank you Bob Irvin for your considerable work on this project.  Also, thank you to Wayne Rogers who has volunteered to construct the building this spring.

The facility will cost approximately $1,700. Several "lead" gifts and commitments have already been received.  If you would like to contribute to the purchase of this important addition it would be a welcome gift indeed!
