THE ANNIVERSARY QUILT?

Whatever became of all of those beautiful squares of fabric that members of Zion put together for an Anniversary Quilt?

Well, thanks to community volunteer Brenda Manley, the quilt is almost ready to be welcomed by the Zion congregation.

Isn't it beautiful?

When no member of Zion was able to complete the work on the quilt, Pastor Pete requested the assistance of well-known "community quilter" Brenda Manley.  Without hesitation, Brenda accepted the challenge of completing the quilt.

We are truly indebted to Brenda for her patient support of "The Quilt".  We can't wait until it is hanging in the Sanctuary at Zion!

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING LAST SUNDAY

Well, Chuck certainly didn't "beat around the bush" when describing Zion's budget for 2014.  And, the news is . . . . . good!

For the fourth year in a row there will be no need to transfer funds from the Endowment Fund to make ends meet.

The pastor's salary has been restored. Our hardworking caretaker, secretary and music director all deserved and received raises in their compensation!

Attendance is up!  Membership has increased!  Giving is up!  As Bill Keesee mentioned in his comments.  This is the Little Church that is doing Big Things in Delaware.  All to God's glory!

Thank you Chuck for your significant service as Treasurer!  Chuck is handing the reins of office to new Treasurer Donna Reed in January.

Christmas Eve

It is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner.  Our tradition is to gather on Christmas Eve for a special celebration of the coming of Christ into the world and into our lives.

Special music will begin at 7:00 and our traditional candlelight service begins at 7:30.

Please let us know if you have special transportation needs in regard to making the trip to church on Christmas Eve.
FAMILY PROMISE - January 5

Let's all gather at Promise House.  When? The week of January 5 through January 11.

Pastor Pete will be headed for the sofa in the front room with his sleeping bag.  Mike will be headed to the guest bedroom.

You?  Maybe fixing a meal for guests at Promise House?  That would be a wonderful way to share the many blessings God has bestowed upon you and your family.

We sure hope you can help!  See Mike for details.
LOCK AND KEY?

We want Zion members to use the church whenever they like! God's church should be used by many and used frequently!  We have many members who access the church on a regular basis. This is encouraged!

But we must be responsible users of our precious building.  This week a door at the church was found wide open during the middle of the day.  Not only does that run up the heating bill, it invites abuse of the building by those who don't cherish it as much as we do.

Please be careful and attentive.  Last person out should always do a "walk around" and make sure all doors are secure.  Thank you!

Apostles Build III
Dedication

Please plan to be with us for the dedication of the Apostles Build III habitat home on Saturday December 28 at 11:00.

Here we see Mike leading a morning devotion before the day's work commenced.

We are pleased to be a partner with other area churches in this important effort.  Plan to be with us on this important day!

SILENT SANCTUARY

It is so difficult to slow down.  Yet, we are called upon to "Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10 NIV).

Skylar is giving us just that opportunity by opening up the sanctuary from 7:00 - 9:00 each Friday evening beginning on December 13.  Come and seek sanctuary from the hectic lives we lead in a troubled world.

Using audio, visual and tactile encounters you may find new ways to encounter God in Silent Sanctuary.  Come and explore the desert and mountain spirituality of solitude.

Please let Skylar know if you have any special requests that may assist you in your journey to Silent Sanctuary.

FEED ME!!

When this year began we set an ambitious goal for ourselves.  We said we could challenge ourselves to donate 1,000 pounds of food and taxable items to People In Need (PIN) to support their important ministries within this community.

As this year winds to a close, we see that not only did we exceed our goal.  We have done so with one more month of collections.  At the end of November we had donated 1,053 pounds to PIN.  This easily exceeds our highest total in a prior year (820 pounds in 2011).

Thank you to everyone who continues to fill the WOW Wagon and make our support of PIN a realistic ministry goal to accomplish each year.  Let's keep it up!

Let's finish the year with a mighty collection in December!
