A Place at the Table
A Place At The Table

Well, Mike couldn't set up chairs fast enough! SRO!! They kept coming to talk about hunger and we were ready; 160 persons at Zion (and it wasn't even Easter or Christmas). What an extravagant welcome Zion had prepared for those hungry to talk about the issue of hunger in this community and in this nation.

The only public screening in Delaware of A Place At The Table was met with a mixture of reactions.  It was evident that those present connected with the film in very real ways.  It is our hope that the public conversation that has now been started will yield fruit in our chosen community.  The final chapter of this story has not been written.
Apostles Build III

Our work continues and, as you can see, Apostles Build III is rapidly approaching completion. This Habitat project significantly partners Zion with area churches and will result in a home for the Kathy Crawford family.

On November 16 Mike will lead a prayerful devotion for the workers on that Saturday.  Melissa, Mike and Pastor Pete (and hopefully others, hint! hint!) will be preparing sustenance for the workers in an afternoon meal. Will you join us!

Ride Needed

If you have the ability and the willingness to assist a member of Zion on November 12 with transportation to Grady Hospital for her surgery, it would be much appreciated.  We will not know the exact time of the need until the day before surgery so some flexibility will be required.  Please let Pastor Pete know if you will be able to assist.

A New Record for           the WOW Wagon!

140 Pounds in October!

WOW is the right sense to use when we talk about the generosity of October's giving!  We are rapidly approaching our goal of 1,000 pounds of food and taxable items this year for People in Need (PIN). After the generous October donations, we have donated 938 pounds to PIN.  We can do this! You Rock Zion!

FOR NOVEMBER: Individual packs of raisins, individual packs of jello and applesauce. Don't forget to feed the WOW (Wheels of Warmth) wagon each Sunday.

Stewardship Sunday

There is no good reason we need to think of our stewardship responsibilities on only one Sunday of the year. In fact, the notion of stewardship should be on our minds each day.  A colleague in ministry of mine just shared this poem with me via email; his timing was fortuitous.

Angel, must I give again?
I ask in dismay.
 And must I keep giving,
And giving and giving it away?
Oh No, said the angel
His glance pierced me through.
Just keep giving
"Til the Lord stops giving to you.

Please prayerfully consider your ability to support God's work through Zion in the upcoming year by properly stewarding the abundant resources God has provided for each of us in this life.

Love Across the Spectrum

Zion is a sponsor of Love Across the Spectrum, an Ohio Wesleyan conference designed to give voice to the lives and stories of LGBT persons and their allies from various Christian traditions engaged in journey we all call faith. Come and hear the powerful witness of the Holy Spirit in action. Come and see the incredible work of these faithful witnesses within the Kingdom of God. Please see Pastor Pete for registration details.

Do You Have These?

I know you recognize the special place in this picture.  It is Promise House. There is a lot of loving and sharing going on at Promise House where families, temporarily without housing, find a warm place of support.

This is more than a house.  It is a home.  A member of Zion has reached out to these families by providing books, board games, puzzles and other forms of entertainment.  What a great idea!  As cold weather looms, the kids will be spending much more time inside.  There were nineteen children (19) at Promise House during the last week Zion was the host church

Can you help?  If you have any new or slightly used entertainment items of this type and they no longer have any use in your home, would you consider donating them?  We are reserving a place on the table against the rear wall of the sanctuary to store items for this purpose.  Please see Phyllis Brewer if you have any questions in this regard.  Please help if you can.

What to Do?

No doubt you have noticed something different about our church grounds.  Yes, we have said goodbye to our former parsonage and garage. They served us well. What now to do with that space?

We welcome your suggestions.  A Memorial Garden? More parking? Green space?  Now that our beautiful church is properly exposed, how might we feature the building with additional signage and lighting?

We know you will have great ideas.  We will be engaging in a congregational conversation on the use of this space.  Please join us!
