My father's birthday is today (as I write this on June 27). I will certainly give him a call but I am not going to send him a present.
Instead, at his request, I am going to make a donation to Apostle Build III. He has asked my siblings and myself, rather than sending him a gift this year, to support one of our ministries here at Zion. Thanks Dad!
Dad's gesture was an unsolicited gesture of love and support for what is happening here at Zion. (Of course, it probably had something to do with the fact his son is the pastor.) Longtime members will remember his powerful, emotive and soaring bass solos at Zion during his time here in Delaware.
These gifts are joyfully received and it is my hope they are multiplied. We have set ourselves a goal at Zion of raising the amount of $3,000 as a partner church in the next Apostle Build habitat house. We already have donations and commitments in excess of $1,800. Our August Local Missions special offering will be dedicated to this effort.
Please give as you are able to this and other ministries of your church. We are each living such an abundant life. Let's share with each other and with our neighbor the blessings we have received in this life.
"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." (Luke 12:48 NRSV).
