Summer Picnic 2012

Summer Potluck Picnic This Sunday!!!

It is our tradition at Zion each year to gather for a potluck picnic after worship on a Sunday during the summer. This year's summer picnic date will be this Sunday after worship.

Please bring your favorite covered dish to share with your neighbors. We'll provide the hotdogs for the grill. Beverages will also be provided.

Jesus would often gather his disciples for table fellowship and we are called to be in community in a like manner

Come, let's build some more Zion memories!!
From the Pastor's Desk

My father's birthday is today (as I write this on June 27).  I will certainly give him a call but I am not going to send him a present.

Instead, at his request, I am going to make a donation to Apostle Build III.  He has asked my siblings and myself, rather than sending him a gift this year, to support one of our ministries here at Zion.  Thanks Dad!

Dad's gesture was an unsolicited gesture of love and support for what is happening here at Zion. (Of course, it probably had something to do with the fact his son is the pastor.) Longtime members will remember his powerful, emotive and soaring bass solos at Zion during his time here in Delaware.

These gifts are joyfully received and it is my hope they are multiplied. We have set ourselves a goal at Zion of raising the amount of $3,000 as a partner church in the next Apostle Build habitat house.  We already have donations and commitments in excess of $1,800. Our August Local Missions special offering will be dedicated to this effort.

Please give as you are able to this and other ministries of your church.  We are each living such an abundant life.  Let's share with each other and with our neighbor the blessings we have received in this life.

"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."  (Luke 12:48 NRSV).

In the Mailbox this Week

"I just wanted to say thank you to all of the volunteers and especially the coordinators for the Family Promise program. I'm very grateful for everything that everyone did and for such a great welcoming into your church.  It all really meant a lot to me and my daughter.  God Bless to all."

MAN OF LA MANCHA

For quite a while the talented cast of this year's Arena Fair Theatre's summer production has been rehearsing at Zion during evening hours.  Our own Patterson family share their talents in the upcoming performance of Man of La Mancha.  Brian White is the production's Music Director.  We are blessed to have such talent among us at Zion and in this community.

Man of La Mancha will be presented this weekend. at the Chappelear Drama Center on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan on the following dates: June 28 (7:30 pm), June 29 (2:00 and 7:30) and June 30 (2:00).

Go to www.arenafair.com to purchase tickets, or call 740.362.0571. Show your support for our friends and enjoy a wonderful production in the cool and comfortable theater.

See you there!

The WOW Wagon Needs to Gain 75 Pounds!!

The WOW Wagon is starting to gain some weight.  But it needs a few more pounds if we are to meet our goal this month.  75 pounds in June will put us at exactly at our half-way point - 500 pounds.

Please help if you are able.  Thank You!!

Vacation Bible School

Dare to go deep with God!!

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is just around the corner! VBS is coming to Zion the week of July 15 (15 - 18). Each afternoon of that week (1:30 - 4:30) children will gather for time together to explore the depths of God's Sea of Love and Compassion.  Dare to go deep with God! Appropriately, this year's theme is
Operation Overboard.

Last year's VBS was a huge success (see picture below). Let's make this year's time together even bigger and better.  Please invite any children you feel would be excited about spending time with other children in a time of fun and exploration.  They do not need to be a member of Zion to participate!

Registration forms are available at Zion. Please return completed forms to Carrie (or you may place them in her box in the Secretary's office).

Juice boxes, water bottles and snacks are needed for VBS.  Please help in this way if you are able by making a donation.  Please see Carrie if you are able to donate any of these items or if you wish to make a monetary donation.

Once again, we will be collecting items for SHARE as our VBS  Mission Project. What a wonderful project!!  A box will be located in the back of the sanctuary for these items. What a wonderful way to help our children understand the call to help our neighbors; especially those with particular and extensive needs. Items needed are: toothpaste & toothbrushes, wash cloths, soap, deodorant, shampoo, combs and Ziploc GALLON bags.
