 Family Camps This Summer
Did you know there are incredible opportunities for younger children to enjoy a camp experience while at the same time bonding in new and exciting ways with their family? A number of 1/2 week sessions are provided throughout the summer camping season.
Mom and Me (July 21-24)
Dad and Me (July 24-27)
Spend a delightful half week building your relationship with your children and your God. Caring staff will offer a wide variety of activities for both youth and adults to enjoy. Hike, swim, pray, play and grow during this relaxed time together.
Grandparents Camps
This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your grandchildren while you pass on your heritage of faith and experience, enjoy Bible lessons, nature, crafts, games, fishing,
swimming and campfires. Each family stays together in a private room unless you ask to lodge with another family. All Grandparent/Grandchild Camps are 3 nights and 4 days.
June 23-26 (ages 4-9); June 26-29 (ages 4-9); July 7-10 (ages 4-9); July 10-13 (ages 7-12); July 21-24 (ages 4-9); July 24-27 (ages 7-12).

From the Pastor's Desk
Paul's second letter to Timothy contains verses of scripture with which we are not particularly familiar. We don't spend a great deal of time (if any) during the church calendar reflecting upon these words of Paul. This is one of the so called "pastoral" letters. In addition to another letter to Timothy and one letter to Titus, these letters are given the title pastoral not because they are uniquely caring or address personal needs but, rather, because they are addressed to pastors. They are addressed to individuals charged with the care and oversight of churches with which Paul was connected.
Candidly, it is doubted whether Paul wrote these letters. But they are very much within the tradition of Paul. They are consistent with Paul's desire to aid and assist these young churches with issues related to Christian living, doctrine and leadership. Another one of Paul's letters (to the Ephesians) mentions the call to be pastors. "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up . . . " (Ephesians 4:11 NIV).
The word or title of "pastor" is derived from the Latin word for shepherd. St. Augustine described the pastor's job in this way: "Disturbers are to be rebuked, the low-spirited to be encouraged, the infirm to be supported, objectors confuted, the treacherous guarded against, the unskilled taught, the lazy aroused, the contentious restrained, the haughty repressed, litigants pacified, the poor relieved, the oppressed liberated, the good approved, the evil borne with, and all are to be loved."
There is certainly no such thing as a perfect pastor. I certainly provide ample evidence of that truth! Each pastor, I think, is challenged to use whatever gifts he or she possesses in ways which honor the demands set out above by Paul and St. Augustine. In that way, it is hoped, members of the church increase in their Christian understandings and their responsibilities in a troubled world.
In the 175 years of Zion's history, I am the 25th pastor called to service by the congregation of the church. If I had to select from among Paul's verses or St. Augustine's suggestions a singular piece of advice for a pastor to follow in order to better serve the congregation it would be to follow St. Augustine's advice that "all are to be loved".
I hope in some way God's love is working through me that I might love you as a pastor should and must. In Christ Pastor Pete

 Nice Job Zion!
Wow!! The WOW Wagon had an incredibly productive month! Beth reports, after yesterday's trip to PIN, that we collected exactly 100 pounds in the wagon in May. This puts us right on schedule for a banner and record year of collections. As you know we have challenged ourselves to collect at least 1,000 pounds of food and other necessities in the wagon this year. May's collection brings our total to 425 pounds for the year.
Please, let's not stop now. The need is real and the need is substantial within this community.
Please keep up the good work! Let's have an even bigger month in June! We can do it!

 Thank You Ministers of Education
We are particularly blessed at Zion to have a wonderful crew of education ministers who give valuable instruction to our youth. Now that another year of instruction has ended, we should and do take time to say thank you. Sharon, Lorna, Susan, Nikol, Grace, Carrie and Jason have (once again!!) gone beyond the call of duty to provide our children with meaningful and valuable learning opportunities.
Not quite done though! Stay tuned for more details on Vacation Bible School (VBS) which is just around the corner this summer at Zion. |
 Mobile Food Market Update
Team Zion continues to be a vital part of the team which presents important and meaningful mission to the Delaware community. Our own Konrad Young was a moving force behind the implementation of the Mobile Food Market in Delaware. His passion moved Zion to participate and support providing fresh food and produce to hungry families in Delaware.
During our first Monday in the Eagles parking lot many months ago, we provided extensive food supplies for 110 families. Last Monday, we provided supplies for over 240 families!! Brothers and sisters, there is a need for this service in Delaware!
Thank you people of Zion for your continued support of this meaningful program. At the risk of omitting someone, we are going to try to list all of those who have given their time and spirit to this meaningful venture.
Andy, Erin and Will Meyer Nancy Townley - Konrad Young Kellye and David Powell Sandy and Ally Lewis Gail, Marty and Anthony Laubdernds Emily, Melissa and Jon Peterson.
Thank you!!!
Jesus said "for I was hungry and you gave me food" (Matthew 25:35 NRSV).
We cannot think of any mission that children of God are engaged in that is more impactful than providing shelter and food. We, at Zion, are deeply engaged in both.

Transportation Ministry?
***Last Sunday we began to survey our congregation on transportation needs and supports. The response was very good. We will continue to assess needs and supports in the weeks ahead.***
Please let us know if you are experiencing transportation challenges in your life or if you know of someone else who is. Having a hard time getting to church on Sunday? Is it difficult for you to get to the market to do some grocery shopping? Need to get to the doctor and just don't have a way to get there? We can help.
Let us know of your need or the need of others. We will be surveying church members and others to help us determine needs which exist in the community. We need your help! Please see our Ministers of Mission (Donna, Nancy, Konrad or Mike) if you have information to share with us in this regard. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration of this request and for your assistance!!
