Spring Cleanup Tomorrow!!
Well, its almost time for us to open the garage, grab the tools which tell us spring is here, and begin our yard work. We need to do that work at Zion as well as at our homes.
Tomorrow we get to work!
We will have our first "outside" spring cleanup effort at Zion tomorrow. If the weather is inclement tomorrow, we will postpone our activities until the following Saturday, May 4. We will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude when our backs and blisters tell us it is time to cease our efforts.
Plan to be with us. Bring your ideas for what you would like our grounds to look like this spring and then come and make that happen!

Peterson Scholarship Is Very Popular
The Ohio Department of Education has closed the window for applicants of the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship. The Peterson scholarship
provides vouchers for disabled students to attend different schools and pays for services related to their needs. The scholarship was named after Zion's pastor after he left the Ohio General Assembly in 2008. Pastor Pete has been a national spokesperson for school choice. The Peterson scholarship is one of only a handful of similar programs in the nation.
There were a total of 2,492 applications this year, 1,497 of which are renewals and 995 new applicants. The number is a considerable increase over the 1,544 applicants at this time last year. The students' home districts have until May 15 to complete their review of the applicants and finalize student individualized education plans.
The Peterson Scholarship includes two funding cycles, with this application window providing support for July 1 through June 30, 2014. The next application period is October 1 through November 15 with vouchers covering services from January 1 through June 30, 2014.
Parents who have an interest in the program should contact the Ohio Department of Education.

 Free Summer Lunch Program
Once again this year, Andrews House is partnering with the Woodward Family Resource Center and Delaware City Schools to offer the Free Summer Lunch Program. Volunteers are critical to making this program successful. Without volunteers, this important summer program would not be possible.
Last summer, Zion volunteers were an important part of the volunteer force. We plan to be onsite again this summer. Please help if you can. Last year, we selected one day a week which was "Zion Day" at Woodward.
Beginning June 3, 2013 and running through August 2, 2013, a free lunch will be offered to anyone, ages 18 and younger, who shows up under the covered part of the playground at the Woodward Elementary school between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm.

For more information, please contact Pastor Pete or one of our Ministers of Mission (Mike, Nancy or Konrad). Thanks in advance for your help and support. It is really appreciated!
Volunteers will help with such things as setting up and tearing down the lunch tables, opening difficult to open items, keeping the lunch tables clean, conducting lunch counts, sanitizing hands, and on Fridays, passing out backpacks full of food for the weekend. Volunteers are also needed to do activities with the children. Last year Pastor Pete brought his guitar and sang with the children. Lunch setup begins around 11:30 and cleanup is usually completed by 1:15.

What's Happening?
May 3. There will be an ecumenical Church Women United luncheon at First Presbyterian Church on May 3. This year it will be a covered dish luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. We sure hope Zion will be represented at this luncheon. Who's interested in representing our church at the luncheon?
The program is an update presentation on The Family Promise House (a special project for many at Zion!) This is a wonderful gathering of women in Delaware! Please come and bring a friend.
July 15, 16, 17, and 18. Vacation Bible School at Zion (VBS). VBS will be held on these days each afternoon. Watch for more details to follow in bulletins and Zmails. See Carrie Abahazi if you would like to assist in the planning and preparations.
May 5. Community auditions for the Arena Fair Theatre's summer production of Man of La Mancha will be held at Zion Church on May 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Adult men and women of all ages are welcome and encouraged to audition. The performance dates this summer are June 28, 29 and 30. Please call Greg Patterson for additional details. (614.806.1569).

 Guest Children's Moment
Please consider volunteering to deliver a Children's Moment sermon during a Sunday worship service in the near future.
On the first Sunday of each month, a "guest" will join the children at the front of the sanctuary. Here's a scene from a recent Children's Moment during which Sharon Patterson had all of the children of Zion Church demonstrating the finest in hat ware. As you can tell by their expressions, they were enjoying themselves. Let Pastor Pete know if you have any interest in sharing with the children during an upcoming service. Nikol Stout will be delivering the Children's Moment sermon on May 5. Thank you Nikol! |

Feed the WOW Wagon!!
We had another very successful collection month in March; 128 pounds of food and other items donated on behalf of Zion to People In Need (PIN). We say "keep doing what you're doing" and we will handily exceed our goal of 1,000 pounds in 2013. Currently, we have collected 258 pounds!
Our newest addition to the PIN family, the WOW (Wheels of Warmth) Wagon, awaits your donation at the rear of the sanctuary. Fill up the WOW Wagon! She is not quite as empty as she was last week. Let's make her smile and fill her up!
A list of the most needed food and taxable items are posted on the sanctuary bulletin board. Most needed food items include canned meats, canned fish, and, always the popular favorite, peanut butter. Most needed taxable items include toothpaste, shampoo, laundry detergent, bar soap and diapers.
