 Guest Children's Moment
Please consider volunteering to deliver a Children's Moment sermon during a Sunday worship service in the near future.
On the first Sunday of each month, a "guest" will join the children at the front of the sanctuary. Here's a scene from a recent Children's Moment during which Sharon Patterson had all of the children of Zion Church demonstrating the finest in hat ware. As you can tell by their expressions, they were enjoying themselves. Let Pastor Pete know if you have any interest in sharing with the children during an upcoming service. Nikol Stout will be delivering the Children's Moment sermon on May 5. Thank you Nikol! |
 New Friends at Zion
What a joy it has been this week to get to know some new friends who have come to spend some time to stay with us at Zion. Devin (pictured here) has truly engaged us in meaningful and exciting conversation.
He is excited about his performance tomorrow at Willis where he will be performing a dance routine with his good friend Michelle. He is currently engaged in a full academic schedule which includes math, language arts, science, social studies and music.
He is currently studying Handel in his music class and we tried to sing a portion of the Hallelujah Chorus together (good thing no one was listening!) He is particularly attracted to the use of metaphors in his language (more ambitious than I was at his age of 11) and he is studying the 7th and 8th amendments to the United States Constitution in his social studies class.
The most important thing in his life is his family and he says he constantly worries that everyone will be taken care of in his family. We welcome all families this week into Zion's family and have throughly enjoyed getting to know all of our guests. Devin, good luck on your dance routine!!! |

Kroger Community Rewards Program Helps Zion!
It is time to reenroll in the Kroger Community Rewards Program. This is an important funding source for our Local Missions Fund here at Zion. Please take a moment to go online to Kroger.com. Go to MY ACCOUNT (have your personal account information at hand to sign in). Then go to COMMUNITY REWARDS and search for Zion or enter code 80123.
Your Kroger purchases add up quickly and they help Zion Church receive a monthly check which helps us to offer assistance to those who come to our door for emergency aid.
This is something quick and easy to do, and so helpful. If you are a Kroger shopper, sign up today so the church may reap the benefits! Thank you in advance for your stewardship and support of Zion. Every little bit does help! Please let Carrie or Pastor Pete know if you have any trouble enrolling.

Piano Recital at Zion - Tonight!!
Tonight we will welcome the keyboard students of Alice Hagelgans, their friends and families into our sanctuary at Zion for their annual recital. This musical extravaganza begins at 7:00.
Our own Joey Horsley, who has just begun his experience at the keyboard, will be one of the performers. Miles and Seamus O'Flaherty will be featured in selections by Bach and Chopin. These young men are returning to perform as former students.
We are so excited about this opportunity for our church to host this community event. All are welcome to attend and refreshments will be served following the performance.

Pick A Project (PAP)
At the back of the sanctuary is an extensive listing propped up on an easel. The listing gives members a significant opportunity to "spruce up" our beautiful church.
Last Sunday we commenced project PAP (Pick a Project) which will allow members to contribute in meaningful ways to remaining capital improvement projects here at Zion. Our Ministers of Property (MOP) have been very busy over the last six months. A tremendous amount of work has been done over the past six months but we still have a limited number of projects to complete. That's where you come in!
The remaining projects are primarily scrape and paint projects in various parts of the church. Just about anyone will be able to help in this regard. As an example, the Johnstons and Petersons have made plans to paint one of the second floor rooms which is in the process of being converted to the church library. They are making it a family project.
While most of these projects primarily involve sweat equity, there will be minimal expenses involved (paint, scrapers, primer etc.). If you are unable to work on one of these projects but wish to support their completion, you may want to make an appropriate donation to help defray these expenses. Just place any amount you wish to contribute in a pew offering envelope and label the outside of the envelope with PAP Donation. Thank you, in advance, for your thoughtful consideration of this request.

 Recycle Your Bulletins!
Please welcome this recycling bin into our sanctuary by using it to recycle our weekly worship bulletins. Please keep an eye out for this helpful new partner of ours as we do everything we can to "Green Up".
Thank you Jeff Reed for your helpful suggestion to make this service available. The bin has arrived and sits in the rear of the sanctuary. |
 Feed the WOW Wagon!!
We had another very successful collection month in March; 128 pounds of food and other items donated on behalf of Zion to People In Need (PIN). We say "keep doing what you're doing" and we will handily exceed our goal of 1,000 pounds in 2013. Currently, we have collected 258 pounds!
Our newest addition to the PIN family, the WOW (Wheels of Warmth) Wagon, awaits your donation at the rear of the sanctuary. Fill up the WOW Wagon! She is not quite as empty as she was last week. Let's make her smile and fill her up!
A list of the most needed food and taxable items are posted on the sanctuary bulletin board. Most needed food items include canned meats, canned fish, and, always the popular favorite, peanut butter. Most needed taxable items include toothpaste, shampoo, laundry detergent, bar soap and diapers.

Spring Cleanup!!
Well, its almost time for us to open the garage, grab the tools which signify that spring is here, and begin our yard work. We need to do that work at Zion as well as at our homes. We will have our first "outside" spring cleanup effort at Zion on Saturday April 27. If the weather is inclement on that date we will postpone our activities until the following Saturday, May 4. We will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude when our backs and blisters tell us it is time to cease our efforts.
Plan to be with us. Bring your ideas for what you would like our grounds to look like this spring and then come and make that happen!
