People in Need (PIN)

We have been consistent and long time supporters of People in Need (PIN).  PIN is making a contribution to the quality of life we enjoy in Delaware County.  PIN helps Delaware County residents with immediate emergency needs created by job loss, family break-ups, illness, death, or other unexpected financial emergencies.

Did you know that last month Zion gave 24 pounds of food and paper products to People In Need?  This is good.  But we can do much, much better.  The greatest needs at present are: canned tuna, peanut butter, pasta, and canned soups.

So, please, focus on one item and bring multiple cans, jars or bags. Pastor Pete is a peanut butter addict.  He tells us at the Zmail he will be bringing many jars of peanut butter.  As you know, the donation box is located at the rear of the sanctuary.

Let's challenge ourselves to double our donation for the month of February. If every person would bring one item each Sunday through the 24th, we will meet this goal!  This is not difficult to do and it will make a difference to those who will receive the benefit of your generosity.  Help if you can and thank you!

EASTER LILIES

The church will once again be offering Easter Lilies for purchase to adorn the sanctuary for Easter Sunday.  This is an opportunity to memorialize or honor a family member or friend. This is a time honored tradition at Zion.

The cost is $8.00 per pot and each flower has 4 to 6 blooms.

Beginning next Sunday, there will be an insert in the church bulletin with an order form.  Please fill out the required information and return it to the church office, or drop in the offering plate.  We request flower orders will be accompanied by payment.

However, if you are unable to make a payment but want to honor a family member or friend in this way, please leave a note for Beth or tell Pastor Pete and we will make arrangements for payment.

Lilies are very popular at this time of year with many churches in Delaware, not just Zion.  It is important, therefore, for us to submit a timely order.  Please have your order to us by March 17.

Thank you for participating in a tradition that not only beautifies our sanctuary on our holiest of days, but also honors those who have gone before us and those who hold a special place within our hearts.

From the Pastor's Desk

I love my job at Zion.  It brings me so much joy it is difficult for me to even call it a job.  Seeing this church come alive in God's Giving Spirit of Love over the past several years has to be one of the most significant joys of my life.  Witnessing to God's work in this world through the people and presence of Zion is beautiful to behold.  Amen?

What is particularly thrilling for me is to watch an individual engage in something he or she really enjoys; all to God's glory.  Not because he has to but because she wants to.

Hope you can be at Zion on Sunday to see one of these examples.

Cheryl Rogers has prepared a very special treat for us.  Cheryl and Wayne love to travel and they have visited some of God's most spectacular and powerful displays of beauty. Cheryl has captured these expeditions in some very, very beautiful photographs.  She has created a presentation which displays these photographs and connects them to a very beautiful piece of music; Sandi Patty's Breathe on Me.  The Spirit has moved Cheryl to add scriptural texts to each photo.

We see God and offer our lives to God in different ways.  It seems to me to be very fitting we will share Cheryl's presentation during a time on Sunday when we offer our gifts, our time, our treasure and our talent.

Many at Zion, this Lenten season, are fasting from carbon as part of an Ecumenical Lenten Carbon Fast to honor God's creation.  Cheryl has captured the wonder and beauty of our planet.  After viewing the slides, maybe you'll feel like turning the thermostat down a few degrees. Maybe not.

But you certainly won't be able to escape the wonder of God's creation.

In Christ,

Pastor Pete

ACH Deductions?

Some persons like the ease of making automatic donations to the church by designating a weekly or monthly recurring deduction to their bank account.  This method helps ease any worry you may have of missing donations to your church when you are unable to worship on Sunday.  If you are interested in this alternative, please contact Carrie and she will assist you set up this method of supporting Zion.

Happy Birthdays to Kellye Powell & Marilyn Vernon   Happy Anniversary to

Need A Dishwasher?

Our Ministers of Property (MOP) indicate to Zmail staff that they are looking for a new home for Zion's dishwasher.  Our dishwasher may not be the latest model, but it has had very, very little use and is almost new if we are talking about "use years". Please let Pastor Pete or one of our Ministers of Property (Pete Johnston, Cheryl Rogers, Shirley Keesee, Mike Newcomb, John Miller or Jason Abahazi) know if you have any interest.
