THIS SUNDAY DECEMBER 30
Pastor's Match for Andrew's House
December 30 has been designated by Church Council as this year's Pastor's Match Sunday. This continues a tradition started last year by Pastor Pete and Melissa to match the amount of offering given on the last Sunday of the year during worship and to forward the entire amount to Andrews House. As you know, we are a community partner with Andrews House and our covenant agreement provides for the sharing of our treasure to the extent we are able. Thank you for helping in this important and significant effort!

From the Pastor's Desk Low Sundays
Why is there such a drop in attendance at churches throughout the world on the Sundays following Christmas and Easter? Perhaps people are so charged up leading up to these two services that anything after that appears to be a letdown and, so, they just stay home; spiritually exhausted.
Nothing I say here will change that behavior but it does occur to me this attendance pattern suggests that our closeness to Jesus and our focus upon Jesus in our lives might be variable. It appears that right after welcoming Jesus into our lives (Advent Season leading up to and including Christmas) and into the world, all of a sudden we have "lost" him or his place in our lives for a period of time. (Hopefully a short period!!).
Similarly, Mary and Joseph lost their pre-teen son in the story told in this week's Gospel lesson found at Luke 2:41-52. "Hey, I thought he was with you!" might have been his parent's sentiment when they discovered he was missing. Is that the way we feel sometimes? How often do we lose or cannot find evidence of Jesus in our lives? Do we take Jesus holidays and leave it up to others to carry on the relationship? "Hey, I thought Jesus was with you!".
And what happens when we discover Jesus is missing? Do we go searching for him seriously and in meaningful ways? I hope so. We have waited with great anticipation for Jesus to come to be with us. I hope we have as much excitement now that he is here!
In Christ,
Pastor Pete
