From the Pastor's Desk

Its the Little Things
It doesn't take too much to bring a smile to my face. Earlier this week, I was moving around the church trying to find something I had misplaced. Looking down at the counter in the kitchen, I noticed an electric cord. What does that belong to?, I wondered. At once it occurred to me. That was the electric cord for the large coffee brewer. The large coffee brewer. No longer is the small coffee maker sufficient for our needs during fellowship hour on Sunday mornings. More people, more coffee drinkers, you get the idea. Smile!
Early last month, a few minutes after starting a Sunday worship service, a family walked into the sanctuary and exclaimed "Pastor Pete, sorry we're late. The parking lot is full! We had to park up the street." More people, difficult parking. Hmmm? Smile!
How often do we run out of bulletins on a Sunday morning? Not too often. Well, it happened recently. Some would see that as a problem. Not me. More people, sharing bulletins. Smile!
And not just more people but more people wanting to help. I was heartened this week by the rapid response to our call for assistance with the first Mobile Foodbank on December 17. People volunteering the treasure of their time to help. Smile!
Last Sunday, as we began to worship, we noticed the table had not been set for communion. Several members immediately went into action preparing the Lord's table for our time of communion. No one had to ask. Smile!
Persons stepping forward this week to volunteer to share their musical gifts. You will hear the magic of their music this Sunday! Imagine that! Musical volunteers!. Its been a while since that has happened on a regular basis. Smile!
Zion is still the small church of extravagant hospitality and Wondrous Welcome it was when you called me as your pastor several years ago. But something is happening in this place and at this time that is beautiful and wonderful to behold. SMILE!! In Christ, Pastor Pete
