THIS SUNDAY
The Zion Handbell Choir will again be participating in this annual event at Gray Chapel this Sunday, November 18th. They will be playing "Ring We Now of Christmas", which is a clever mix of "Carol of the Bells" and "Sing We Now of Christmas". The ensemble has been working two and three rehearsals a week to prepare for the event, so plan to attend and show your support! The performance starts at 7:00pm and will include a free-will offering to cover expenses of the event.

From the Pastor's Desk
Thank You!!
Last Sunday I suggested, during the message, that it is possible to reorient the spirit of our giving from an "attitude of gratitude" (thanks) to the spirit of acknowledging the power of God in our lives (praise).
I was very clear (I hope) that reframing and reimagining our giving is certainly not intended as a substitute for thanking God for the many blessings God has bestowed upon us. It was, rather, intended to provoke our thinking about how we give. Do we give just when we are thankful for all that we have received as individuals or can we give thinking about something that is well beyond us and beyond our comprehension; God's glory; that is, giving based upon praise.
This week we shift back to thanks. As we prepare for the holiday of Thanksgiving, we are thankful in so many ways. My list seems almost endless but let me begin with these. I am thankful for those who have stepped forward this week to bring us, during this week's worship service, a new perspective on our pilgrim heritage. I give thanks for those who have helped out this week with Family Promise, extending an extravagant welcome to our guests. Thank you to all of Zion's bell ringers for extending our bell ministry beyond the walls of the church. Thank you for cleaning up the yard and parking lot. Thank you for your pledges of support for next year's operating budget. So many have given so much of their time, talent and treasure to Zion. I believe this generosity reflects praise for the presence of God in our lives. Yes, thanks and praise go hand in hand. We acknowledge all that love has done for us. God's love is worthy of praise. Praise God! from whom all blessings flow. In Christ, Pastor Pete |
