Mission Hurricane Sandy As you know, this week a superstorm swept up the Atlantic coast of the United States, leaving a path of destruction and death across 17 states from the Carolinas to Maine. The UCC's National Disaster Ministries is already working hard to assist those hit hard by the storm. If you would like to contribute to those relief efforts, please include donations with your morning offering and note "Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund" on your check or envelope. (Checks payable to Zion.) Thank you.
People in Need Please bring your non-perishable food items for our monthly PIN offering. Thank you! Zion is again "Adopting-A-Family" for Christmas this year through PIN. Please see Carrie after worship over the next two Sundays if you would like to participate in purchasing an item for the family. If you would rather make a cash donation, that is greatly appreciated too. (Please note Adopt-A-Family with your donation.) Cash will be used for purchasing a grocery gift card for the family. All wrapped gifts and donations need to be at Zion by Sunday, December 2.
Family Promise Zion will be hosting Family Promise from November 11 - November 18. Please see Mike Newcomb if you are able to help with meals or overnights. Thank you!

 Zion Welcomes Clear Run
The group Clear Run is made up of Chuck Magill, Dave Ebert and Stella Cunningham, all who attend Delaware Bible Church. They were each involved in singing and playing instruments growing up and into adulthood. Chuck and Dave sang together at church several times and built a friendship around music. Stella sang in the church choir and as a soloist for over 30 years. Their Pastor thought they could make a nice group! So, the church had a potluck and the three of them sang a few songs together... and the rest is current history! The group has been together 3+ years and work on the music ministry with their families, the help of great friends they fondly call "their groupies" and most importantly, the Lord's blessing and provision for them. Clear Run is dedicated to bringing "a merry heart" (Prov. 17:22) to those who hear their music and to glorifying the great Lord through their lives and their work. Let's extend an extravagant welcome to Clear Run at Zion this Sunday morning! |

Changing Seasons
This past week we felt an abrupt change in the weather. Colder temperatures are certainly ahead. Other changes occur in our lives as well at this time of year. We change the clothing we wear. We run outside in the morning to start the car and let it warm up just a little before we head out to greet the day. For those of us who watch our budgets (at home and at church), we prepare ourselves for increasing gas bills. We prepare ourselves for Saturday afternoons watching college football. We try to remember to reset our clocks as we "fall back" this weekend.
Yesterday, as I turned onto Hillside Drive and approached our home in the evening, I noticed an oddly shaped package sticking out of the mailbox. It turned out to be my diploma from Methesco signifying I had completed all of the requirements and earned an advanced degree; Masters of Divinity is boldly printed on the degree. Having completed my academic work in June I had completely forgotten about a printed degree. I am sure, at some point, I will frame the degree and hang it on the wall with the others. It would have been cheaper to cover the wall with wallpaper!
My journey through seminary was a long one. I began taking classes in 2003. Serving in the legislature during that time, it was one of the most productive periods of my life. It was also notable, for me, as a period of significant personal growth and development as one of God's children. Seminary was a catalyst in that regard and I will always be thankful for the professors and fellow students who nurtured me and supported me during that journey.
Receiving the diploma this week reminded me that my season at seminary (as extended as it was) is now over. It further reminded me that new occasions teach new duties and that I have been prepared and trained to do God's work here at Zion. To the extent that I am able and as the Lord gives me the strength, wisdom and patience to do that that work we will move forward together.
I love and look forward to changing seasons. I look forward to seeing what the next season holds in store for us at Zion.
Amen?
In Christ,
Pastor Pete
